Well just when I thought Moab could not possibly be any more thrilling and adventurous then day 1........Day 2 was INSANE! We had by far our largest group which has positives and negatives. Its awesome to see that many UTV's on the trail at once but it tends to slow the trail down. But when your riding with guys like Team Green, Crowdog, Wally, Larry Roeseler, Todd and Jack from DFR, etc. etc. it doesnt matter what the pace is, its always going to be interesting.
Today we rode the trail called Moab Rim. Filled with spectacular views like all of Moab seems to be, Moab Trail really exemplified what this place is all about. This is one trip where riding along is just fine with me. My host and driver, Team Green Reid Nordin of Kawasaki not only has some of the finest equipment on the trail but he has some of the best driver skills of everyone. Reid is no rookie when it comes to navigating technical terrain, having won the Baja 500 and 1000 with our other friends on the run Larry Roeselr who is also a 12 time Baja Champion, and the boys from DFR. Reid knows Moab very well so just being in the passenger seat while he navigates these rock roads that will make the toughest of off roaders pucker is just killer. If Reid has the choice between the "HARD" route or the "EASY" route he always takes the hard one giving me the co driver the ride of my life.
After a long day on the trail, and just as most of the riders on our run today were calling it a day we headed back to the arena (Rally On The Rocks Headquarters) via our police escorts to load back up and head to another trail. This time we would be heading to a FAST run. This run is one that off roaders and racers alike can really appreciate and one that I will never forget for my entire life. We headed to a trail, just myself, Reid, LR, Todd, Jack, Crowdog, Wally, and our friend Dave to not just play but to "GET AFTER IT"! Here is where Todd of DFR handed me the keys to his 09 Long Travel 840cc DragonFire Racing Teryx. He told me to drive it like a rental and while I didnt quite drive it that hard I definitley put it through its paces. Not only that but I was able to run up in the dust of Larry Roeseler. I know, I know, who cares...well I do! hahah... Its not every day you get to run at high speed with a 12 time Baja Champ who is a racing icon and off road legend. Not to mention I finally got to experience the Moab trails first hand behind the wheel of a serious machine. The DFR Teryx handled excellent and the power was REDICULOUS! SUPER FAST!
We ended the day with some Pizza, Beers, and Cocktails. Trading war stories and having some good laughs. I must say this trip so far is one for the record books! I am really lucky to be able to have this experience!
Until Manana, enjoy the pics!
