Ha ha! You're just an old fart like me in a younger mans word Johnny! Eventually, we'll fade away into oblivion, as they re-build our once formidable castles. You did waay better than I expected.

I warned you all. At this time, there is NO-ONE who stands a chance against our package in Mexico! A 25 minute belt change, and then a front diff failing causing a noisy, and very slow 2wd post Ojos finish, wasn't enough to allow a driver even as good as Branden to capitalize on it. But boy, did he try! Man, was he flying around those last few asphalt corners. Sure sounded sweet for a car running a 100% stock motor, intake, and exhaust!

Well you may not have won, but you did have one of the best looking rides out there!!!

Congratulations to all the finishers for sure. 1905, You guys are the real deal, no doubt! The overall competition in the pro UTV class has gotten so good. We have been doing this for a really long time and we really capitalized back when the competition had not gotten it all figured out. Today the class is very different and there are many teams with the talent, equipment and formula to win. Clearly it takes an "A" game to win races in todays arena.

We are not really happy with our 5th place finish and we will not make excuses about it. Our whole team worked their butts off and some things did not go our way, but that's BAJA in a nutshell. We ran the first half of the race with no front wheel drive and broke two rear axles in the last section and finished in front wheel drive LOL.

Again great job everyone, had a great time, glad to be home and we will get ready for the next race!

Pre running is all part of the "pay-ckage". Maybe he'll be more prepared for the 1000. Ours has proven to be un-beatable in Baja this year.

I agree 100% on the pre running. Unfortunately he didn't have the first 20 miles on his GPS.

Bill I have a question for you. Can you or will you tell me your thoughts on why you guys chose to take a rear start? With the increased competition in this class over the past year, will you chose a rear start again?



IMO and from my past experience, a rear start in a competitive class with more then a hand full of entries never works. Especially with the newer tacking system which eliminates the creative lines or course cutting. And with bottle neck being more common, I see the chance of getting hung up in some else mess and costing you time more likely. And OK I should never say never to a rear start, maybe at a tip to tip or long loop Baja 1000, but I cant see what the advantage would be at any other race. Yes it's easier to keep track of timing, but with today's tech keep track of your car & the competition has never been easier. Ivan Stewart once told me over dinner. "Its always better to be the lead car as you set the pace. Everyone else is racing you and in doing so many times they over drive their equipment which leads to failure." I always raced with this theory and for us it has worked.

Bill, I heard you had a pocket full of cash, and were in a betting mood the night before the race. Sorry we couldn't hook up! But more sorry that you had serious drive train issues. I wish we all can have one race where the other has only common or expected problems (i.e. a broken belt or flat tire).
The race-long efforts of the #1913 surely kept us on our toes, and it would have been great to have more of the top teams vying for the lead.

Next race is in your back yard, and against two of your best. We'll give you another shot there, where the advantage shifts away from our package and over to yours. Maybe Matt can give the co-ordinates for the cross hairs on our rear bumper that he has to Craig and Brandon!

Well Gps or not imagine the Old days. with out that GPS. Ive heard Rumors of the Possibility of Score doing away with cars having GPS to make it safer out there on the Course. Being that alot of drivers are driving blind in dust and still hauling ass with no visibility and running cars people who knows what OVER. they Might have notes on areas where there are nasty obstacles, but otherwise just driving blind. Probably wont ever happen but you never know. Im kinda for it to Happen and it will force people to drive and actually slow down to a safe pace in some cases. I dont know !!!!

The rear start was Matt's idea. I have never really been a proponent of this philosophy and we have always been able to capitalize pretty well on a good draw position, However Matt is our driver of record for SCORE and I respect his experience and his decisions for the BAJA races. he has much more experience in Baja than anyone else on our team. Of course the philosophy of a rear start is that you are clearly ahead of anyone you can pass without doing any math and at about RM 70 when Matt was already running 4th physically I felt pretty good about his decision. The bottleneck at 225ish killed us and a better stating position may or may not have made a difference. One the other hand, Brandon drew first at silver state this year and led I for over 200 miles driving a controlled pace but a couple cars working from the back of the pack got within striking distance late in the game and there was no way to recover that much time in that short of a distance. So the long and short of it is that either way can work but you really have to have a flawless race to win at todays level of competiton.

OR: We put a new bumper on the car and wanted to try it out !

Hey Bill, do you mind elaborating on the broken rear axles? Are they magnafluxed and inspected for cracks regularly? Is the rear suspension of your car adjustable, and if so, do you check the axle plunge every time you adjust? If you are willing to share, I am willing to learn! I understand if it is more proprietary as well

Sounds like a lot of differential issues in this race. Maybe fresh diffs for these races. or major tear down and testing like Reid is asking.
