I have decided to cut my car in half and stretch it. My cage was built in such a way that no one on my team including myself want to race the car again unless we can get some leg room. I spoke to the UTVRA and the DSR1 class allows wheelbase changes up to 103" so we decided to just swap a motor as we strech the cage. I have a Tom Pro reverse box that is 1.3:1 and a 2009 R-1 motor with cross plane crank sitting in the garage. I will be mounting the motor behind the passenger seat transversely and attaching a drive shaft to the output shaft. It will run forward to the revese box which will be standing upright and split power to the front/rear drive shafts just like a divorced transfer case. My combined gear reduction will be 5.68:1 which is much lower than the 4:1 used by the SR1 short course cars. I will have 4wd and reverse with no chain or belt to break. How long we stretch it will depend on how much room we need. We are stripping the car this week and starting the install next week. We will be running gear one out back to allow stronger shafts. I will take pics and keep you posted.
Now, how about some more DSR1 cars out there. Bike power, super reliable on pump gas, way fast, and much cheaper than building a PRO class utv. It is a points class with payback and a championship. Let's go guys.
