STEEEEEEEEKERZ - UTVUnderground Approved
So about a month ago my fuel pump on my RZR-S went out while at Glamis. I have a 4 year warranty with Western General and they have been great so far. I took the RZR to Chaparral and they confirmed the fuel pump was bad and Western General told Chaparral its an emissions issue and that Popo needs to cover it. So Popo went back and fourth and finally paid the claim (3 weeks later). I go out last weekend to Dove Springs and the fuel tank was leaking bad at the top of the tank around the new pump assembly. I checked the screws holding the assembly into the tank and all but 1 of the 6 were stripped (the inserts were spinning). I couldn't even remove the assembly. SO I gooped some silicon around the assembly seal and parked it for a day. The next morning I took it for a ride and it stayed dry. This was a temp fix to get me through the weekend until I could get back to Chaparral. So on Monday it was back at the shop. I explained the situation to the service writer (who knew me from when I picked it up originally). Its been 3 days now and I called to find out what the deal is. The service writer spoke to the tech and the tech says he knew he stripped 1 screw but thats it! (He never should of let it leave until fixed). Now Chaparral is trying to go back to Western General for a claim for an entire tank assembly and pump (thats how Popo does it... can't get just a tank). It is doubtful W.G. will pay the claim as it was human error and falls once again to emissions, but Chaparral knows Popo won't cover a 2nd pump in 2 weeks. So I ask "what if its not approved, where do we stand being your tech stripped the inserts"? I am told that we will need to see but it looks like its something I will need to split with Chaparral possibly because the tech said only 1 screw was stripped and now theres 5 (there accusing me of stripping them). WTF!

Ya those inserts are not the best ,I spun two with my gas pump replacement and just put some JBweld on the insert and I have read it works will see. It's a shame that they didnt just replace the pump , the pump is only about 50 dollars and if all goes right ( not spinning the inserts ) its about a 2 hr job. But I think when you are working with warranty stuff it changes every thing. Good luck

They did replace just the pump last week. Now that the inserts are stripped they need to order a tank they say and Popo will only sell it with a new pump in it.

Really the the inserts should be re-fitted and call it good , but what do I know ?

If its an option then I am open but as is I couldn't get the pump assembly to come out because the screws are spinning the whole inserts in place. Its just ridiculous that the tech could have thought it wasn't going to leak and all would be ok.

Ya six would be fun to get out lucky I only had 2. I used vise grips and pulled/pried the bolt and the other I used a soldering iron and heated up the bolt in the insert thinking it would break down any lock tight and that worked on the other one. Then I replaced the bolts with a two way thread stud with a lock washer and a nut so I,ll never have to deal with the chit again, sorry got side tracked.

BUT really new tank is about 450-500 that will suck if you have to pay some of that.

This is what the insert look like if you were wondering

Weather it's one or five they are at fault and need to replace it at no charge. Just be very firm with pushing the issue

Bullsh1t is what it is! Another reason I stick with The companies that support UTVUG! Do not roll over on this Jason, make them make good on this.

Exactly. They admit to stripping 1 therefore they admit to ruining the tank. Popo put 6 on there for a reason, and it wasn't in case the dealer stripped one there'd be 5 left.

So the RZR was not fix in the 1st place having 1 strip and letting you take it, was a bad service call ;-)

they also put you and your passenger in danger of being burned if that leake would have ignited , it could have gotten real bad real quick.

ADMITION OF GUILT BY SAYING THEY STRIPPED ONE. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE & THERE IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. POPO SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BAD DESIGN SINCE THE INSERTS ARE KNOWN TO STRIP. FIGHT IT DUDE. ALSO WHAT'S UP WITH THE FUEL SHRADER VALVE ABOVE THE EXHAUST? WHEN THEY GO OUT THEY LEAK ON THE EXHAUST. I AM SUPRISED THERE AREN'T FIRES & LAWSUITS.

I had some issue with mission motor over dirt in thottlebody, rzr wont run . air emission problem, polars/ western ins. fitting over who's going to pay. 11wks thay had my ride, till I sent them copys of theard talking about my problem on utv ug forum an other forums . all of sudden some body paid to fix my ride under warrenty. as joey said don't let them get away with it .

Update: As of now its been there a week and they have no repair plan yet. Parts have not been ordered either. They are trying to get Popo to send them a tank without the pump assembly which is not offered. They did mention they want 3 hours labor $240 approved for disassembly because I have an aftermarket cage (which mounts up the same) and my doors. I am on the fence with this and have not approved it because I took it in for a fuel pump and not a tank swap and since they caused the issue to require the tank swap they should eat it.

I don't get it you have door that open and you have a aftermarket cage that's bolts up to the stock supports ( what kinda of BS is that ) so why the $240. 00 charge . Did I miss some some thing ?

being the simple fact that the mechanic ammitted to braking it they are liable, what if you car would have caught fire? that is a huge safety issue. request a meeting with the owner and demand they fix your car and they can worry about who's paying on their own time.

I registered on this site just so I could weigh in on this issue. As much as I hate lawyers, there needs to be some more legal thought put into this thread. It really does not matter whether the shop admits to stripping one, all six or NONE of the bolts. The facts as I understand them are that the pump went out which falls under warranty (it does not matter who's liable as to this point - factory or 3rd party carrier); you apply for warranty (now making you a claimant) and make demand to be made whole (through coverage that is due to you); The claim is honored and efforts to make whole are performed. You discover that you are not provided a full remedy so you return and reclaim your demand. The liability is obvious. The shop must fix your unit as was originally agreed. If repairing the original covered item caused undue labor from the addition of aftermarket parts, consumer would be responsible to pay the costs beyond the book labor. If there is now additional items/labor required to 'make you whole' that falls outside the original covered diagnosis, which have been caused by faulty parts or labor during the approved repair, that liability falls on the vendor - which will include the removal of the cage. Put simply, they accepted the claim and should have been able to apply the fix without removing the cage in the first place. The fact that the repair was made more complicated than it should by the repair facility is not your fault, aka liability. There are many legal remedies. You can start by researching your rights as a consumer. If you are confident in your position, then you may consider putting the word out there (as you are now) which will tarnish their reputation without fear of retaliation (defamation, libel, slander). Chapparral is a large company, but they did not get that way from a bad reputation. If they are still a business that cares about future profits, then they should fear word of a lawsuit. I would issue them a resonable demand for remedy (in terms of time) and then waste no time in getting my civil suit filed. Your claim should include all costs associated with your faulty repair: towing, gas, clothing ruined from fuel spill, loss of use, etc.

Thanks for the response. Very well worded at that. I am currently giving them until the end of the week before escalating. I called and spoke to my service writer and he has agreed to at least get the new tank assembly ordered. Where it goes from there I am waiting on both Chaparral, Western General and Polaris to come to an agreement of sorts. I see no reason why this should not take any longer then weeks end.
