The Perfect UTV Race / Event

Do you all have Supermoto Races like the midwest(KS, OK, TX, etc..)where you race paved tracks @ high speeds, then GNCC trails, then MX whoops, jumps, etc? Challenges multiple styles of racing on one track. :D

yep thats what the WORCS series is except no asphalt(for utv's, bikes and quads). but there are normal supermoto racing here for the bikes as well, i use to race one they are a blast.

We had a great time at Soboba as we always do wherever we go. Just never know what's gonna happen outside our front door.

Great party, great people, great UTV racing.

The locals however, were not very welcoming and we had a couple incidents/encounters that kinda soured us on ever going back there. I was under the impression we were there to help them out. Donating our time, the cost of getting and staying there, and spending all day Fri/Sat/Sun helping with the races. It seemed more like we were unwelcome intruders on their land.

The camping area wouldn't be large enough to accomodate a very large crowd like I would hope to see at a major event.

The spectators really didn't have access to view a majority of the track.

Perhaps another venue would make more sense.

WOW. NO ONE ELSE HAS MENTIONED THE BAD POINTS. SORRY YOU GUYS HAD TO DEAL WITH THAT.
WE HAVE HAD REALLY GOOD LUCK WITH THE GOLDEN ACORN CASINO. WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH A FEW LOCALS GOING TO THE WINDMILLS. THE PERFECT PLACE WOULD BE THE LAKE ELSINORE TRACK.

I agree with J&M, parking lot too small, track not spectator friendly. We went to the Casino and danced Sat night, awesome casino place was way packed they don't need our $ I guess, way better than Acorn, huge dance floor great live band. Jane had to go home for work but when I returned I heard the LF party from a distanced and joined in. Lots of truckers @ Acorn not party friendly every time I’ve been there windy and cold at night in winter.

One of these days if I can get closer J&M we feed each other audio video lines we’ll have an awesome outdoor surround sound system with two video screens and I have four attached outdoor speakers spanning my rig. I just ordered some more music DVDs from Amazon.

Then all we’d need is colored lights, a disco ball, an arch entry with a "La Familia Club" on top, and a poker table in middle... who needs a casino. :D

I’m not far from Lake Elsinor is it a good place to ride and hang out?

YOU NEED TO COME TO THE 4TH ANNUAL ROBERT ROSAS JR. MEMORIAL OFFROAD RIDE, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. THE GOLDEN ACORN CATERS TO US. WE CAN PARTY ALL NIGHT LONG IN THE PARKING LOT. THEY SECTION OFF AN AREA FOR US THE WHOLE TIME WE ARE THERE. ASK JIM, CISCO, GOERGE, DAN, ERNESTO OR BRYCE. THEY HAVE ALL BEEN THERE. JIM & CISCO FROM THE BEGINNING.

Okey Dokie, I added it to my calender, weekend of May 26-28th.

Other thing I didn't like about Soboba is getting in n out of that windy road I almost hit a t-pole Friday night coming in and had a heck of time getting gas on the way out.

Acorn much better but be nice if we could make a huge circle. Maybe the lower Sobaba lot would have been better, but it was the pro-pit? Had plenty of room regardless.

Might be time for motorbike ride to LE check it out. :D

It would be nice to hear from some racers:

What kind of prize money really get's you interested ?

Or, is it not about the money?

LE HAS NEW OWNERS & A NEW TRACK SINCE WE USED TO WORK FOR M4SX THERE. IT WAS FUN TO CAMP, WATCH, BE CORNER WORKERS, TOW VEHICLE FOR TROPHY KARTS & SXSs & THERE WERE ALWAYS VENDORS. THE TRACK JUST OPENED WITH NEW OWNERS. THEY PUT A LOT OF MONEY & IMPROVMENTS IN THE PARK. I HAVE NOT SEEN IT SINCE THE IMPROVEMENTS, BUT I HEARD IT IS NICE.
WE MET RUSTY & JOEY THERE. WE WERE WORKING FOR KEN JOHNSON (DIRTY) WHO WAS CO/OWNER OF M4SX. HE WORKS FOR LUCAS OIL PROMOTING RACES.

I JUST READ IN S&S OFFROAD. THAT HDRA IS INCLUDING UTVs IN THEIR DESERT RACES. THEIR FIRST RACE IS APRIL 6 - 8 @ PLASTER CITY. WE NEED TO SUPPORT THIS RACE & THIS SERIES. WE NEED THE PRESENCE OF UTV RACERS, VENDORS & SPECTATORS. WE WILL PROBABLY BE RUNNING A CHECKPOINT OR SOMETHING. WE HAVEN'T VOLUNTEERED YET BUT WE ALLWAYS DO. I KNOW RUSTY HAS BEEN TO RACES & PLASTER CITY & I AM PRETTY SURE JOEY HAS. IF WE SUPPORT THIS IN A BIG WAY. THE UTV COMMUNITY WILL BENEFIT AS WELL AS THE LOCAL ECONOMY WHICH HAS ONE OF THE HIGHEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THE US. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE WE LIVE HERE. SO LETS PROMOTE THIS RACE AS MUCH AS POSSIBILE.

Ok I will chime in....

1st. Soboba is an amazing venue and as a person who goes to just a couple races a year let me tell you why. #1, you can drive your UTV around. #2 you can camp whether your racing or not. While the upper camping parking lot for LaFamilia was rather small, the lot below where I was is HUGE and has PLENTY of room. Remember, this is not a desert race where you can go out and away and just post up and have a huge circle. #3, you are still within close driving distance of stores, food, CASINO, etc etc. #4, while the course may be difficult to see remember this is a 6.2 mile course. This isn't a short course race where you sit shoulder to shoulder with a ton of people and watch the same roundy round for 15 minutes at a time. There is no way to accomodate everyone in terms of watching. Your best way to see the whole track is to RACE! Which anyone can do, another huge positive of Soboba! Soboba IMHO is one of the LAST great UTV races. Its not overrun by rules, its still affordable to get into the race, its a great family atmosphere, and HUGE payout! Another thing about Soboba is the course. Mnay in the area will tell you that Soboba has some of the best off-road trails and dirt of anywhere in the world. We need to continue to support Jacob and this race cause I have a feeling that once its gone again, its gone for good.

2nd. You have to ask yourself, what makes a great race venue? Personally I love to be at the track for the whole weekend hanging with the racers and getting to know the organizers. Thats what I love. I love camping on Blacktop too! Keeps things clean and its easier to get around without a ton of DUST hanging in the pits or campground all day. You also have to ask, how do we get the racers here? Well the GP's seem to get the best car counts, KOH's will get a solid turnout finally this year also. The reason I see GP's do so well is the relaxed rule book, the run what you brung formats, and the welcoming of the weekend warriors. You don't have to be a pro racer to compete so its cool to see guys/girls who normally only ride in the deserts get a chance to compete and in many cases catch the competition bug.

I love GP style races that are held in areas not normally accessed by the general public. It makes Soboba and Lake Elsinore a ton of fun. Adelanto is coming up and I hear that too is a fun venue.

With all that said. I would love to see some sort of "Underground" race held in Ocotillo Wells or Glamis where its like "oh hey, we all just showed up, same place same time, and we all happen to want to get over to China Wall then Patton Valley, and we all just happen to like to ride fast, last one there is a rotten egg!"

I love the Grand Prix style of racing!

I help put together the PALA UTV GP 2009,2010.

I tried in 2012,with no luck!

I had a vision and UTVunderground played a big roll in it along with all the supporting vendors here on this site.

Classes:
MX,QUAD,TROPHY KARTS, UTV'S......

The first race there was 10 UTV'S and half of them where my buddys. The second race we had 30 UTV's lined up ready to take on PALA and we had a great time with tons of smiles!

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS BACK !!!!!

Just thinking out loud here:

1. You show up at the Start/Finish line in the morning.
2. You get Coordinates to checkpoint 1 and a start time.
3. Get there as fast as you can
4. Get coordinates to checkpoint 2 etc, etc.
5. Finish all legs with the best time - You win

That sounds great, but that means I have to know how to read....:D It also means I have to have a GPS or follow someone that does (the cheap route!!!) JK...

This is a lot like a road rally. You could actually do multiple legs over a few days like this. Interesting concept...

@ Joey & OFFROADSWAPMEET: I agree with you both about Grand Prix style racing. It doesn't take a ton of money to do it and It's fun. I have a stock RZR 800 and i've done good so far. Soboba, I placed 14th out of 33 that started :D. I've raced LEGP and Castaic GP last year and placed in the middle of the pack. I'm not Johnny Pro, just a weekend warrior that likes to have fun. I would like to see GP style racing grow. Too bad about Pala, what happend to that venue? A GP at Plaster City sounds like fun.

You don't have to have GPS, people, military included, have been using maps and compasses for a few hundred years to navigate. Give me a couple hours and I can teach you how you too can navigate like a pro...LOL.
We hold GPS/Geocache Runs here all the time and several don't have GPS units, yet still do great. I even had one guy show up with GoogleEarth on his laptop, he put the coordinates into GoogleEarth, zoomed in on where it was and drove like heck to get there.. he did good surprisingly.

But GPS runs are a blast. We even have 'em where you get to the point and draw a card from the checkpoint person, then when you get to the finishline, everybody lays down their cards, best hand wins an extra prize...

Can you say "Cannonball"...

I know of a promoter that was setting up a race from Canada to Mexico via dirt roads.. super secret, by invitation only... won't say whether it's been run yet, but I suspect it has.. something along those lines for a long distance run might be a blast...ala Cannonball style... but we sure wouldn't want to be caught doing it...

Just got off the phone with OW management folks.

Races or timed events are not allowed at this time. The plan is under review but will likely be 2-3 years before that would change.

Hey Jim what about the event out at Glamis where everyone left the compount with gps cords. Went to the next spot to get more gps cords. and so on . then at the end we had the ice cream truck there. I ll have to look up that
thread on glamisdunes.com

That was actually our event. We called it "Hide-N-Seek" We scouted out a secluded place out in the dunes for the party then set up the GPS course the day before.

Had a big BBQ out in the middle of nowhere...
