The Perfect UTV Race / Event

So, I'm sitting here reading through various threads on the forum about races like Soboba, KOH, etc, etc and started wondering what would be the perfect "UTV race/event"?

Including the race itself and the surrounding events and where might it take place?

KOH is way cool but UTV's will always be an add-on event to the U4 cars.

I'm wondering about an event where UTV's are the "MAIN SHOW" and not only is the racing great but the "whole experience" is something folks would leave wanting more........

We had fun at the grand prix but I could see a lot of things that could make it even better. Sure the bikes and quads were cool but I never really got out of my chair until the UTV's started on Sunday.

It was great watching the racers but couldn't help thinking as they went by " Man that looks like fun". When we had a chance to run the track, I had a great time pretending I was "Mr. Pro Racer" while chasing a buddy around the track.

Anyway, if you're inclined, throw your opinions in here.

Never know where it might lead.

ive raced desert, short course, gp's, monster jams, rhino cup etc. still hands down the most fun was the bash before the dash in plaster. 2 motos less than a mile course, there were just under 20 rhinos. battles everywhere and i wanna say maybe 2 dnfs each moto. sandy, bumpy multi line track with some semi firm ground spots. second best was the rhino cup at et motopark. such a perfect rhino track. you just hit all the jumps wide open. they were perfect. really good air too.

THE BASH BEFORE THE DASH WAS AWESOME. I LOVED THE M4SX RACES BUT I AM A LITTLE PREDJUDICED BECAUSE WE WERE THERE FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END. IT FOCUSED ON UTVS FOM THE BEGINNING & WERE DEFINITLY EVENTS.

I have often thought it would be cool to set up a time trial race in Ocotillo to include the mud hills and technical sections of the north end and Truck Haven. A course that would be more technical than high speed. This would level the playing field out for older Rhinos all the way to new XP's and Commanders... as close as could be anyways. Winner gets a cold case of beer.

I think Silverstate is a pretty amazing course, especially in the trees...but that's just me.:D

Just like the 1st KOH!:D

Problem is that things have changed since 13 guys peeled out on the lake bed 6 years ago. Sadly the cost of a permit and insurance has become such an issue I don't think a stand alone utv race is feasible. At least not with 30 utv's in attendance.

Lets just say coincidently a bunch of guys show up the same day somewhere with some SXS's

I say a timed race where it's you against the clock is probably the best scenario to include as many different configurations of SxS's This keeps folks from worrying about having someone door banging them just to get a spot, and allows you to push it to your limit without killing yourself or your machine. Kind of like golf where it's you against the course and then you are evaluated against the other competitor and how well they beat the course.

Sounds a bit weak, but when you put a bunch of folks together with a big variance of skill levels, someone's going to get hurt. At least this allows everyone to participate without the fear of being mowed down by a far too aggressive driver. Just like Soboba, slow and steady can get you a good finish... It's a test of how well you manage time and keep the greasy side down...

I've had far too many encounters racing karts where someone thinks they're Michael Schumacher and is going to try and prove it to you.

IT CAN'T BE OFFICIAL. BLM WANTS THEIR PIECE OF THE PIE. WOULD BE FUN THOUGH.

That is the GREAT thing about the Reservation NO BLM! Great place to race and NO RANGERS:D:D:D And it is still there and no rangers needed!

Reed (Papa Bear) is right, the BLM is getting pretty sticky on their requirements. I work with an OHV group that does events and the rules are pretty tight. If you charge an entry fee, then the BLM cost recovery fees skyrocket. Most events we do are on "Open OHV" areas so we don't have to deal with studies and such, plus we don't charge, we ask for donations to be involved. Recently, the BLM has started telling us though, if we have 10 or more in a group (even out play riding), then it becomes an event and they want a permit. Not sure how legal that standing is though.

But the very best thing, have the race/event on indian reservaton land. They are usually much easier to work with and like the positive attention it can bring. Plus if there is a bit of revenue for them, they really like it. Many reservations also have casinos (due to indian gaming laws in most states) and those casinos often like to help out with events that might bring them customers.
Incidently, the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona, Utah and New Mexico is about 25000 square miles... can you imagine getting them to host a long distance race there....

Otherwise, my vote would be hold it on private land if not reservation. Something like the Soboba sounds pretty inticing.

so far you guys are describing a worcs race they are timed races with a mix of technical riding, mx course, and open trails. i think this year they are doing a race in gorman. being that that you are placed in a class with equal competitors the racing is very close and cheap to get into.

Does WORC run a Baja Pro or Unlimited Class per ISA Rules? If so, that would be interesting...

not sure but they are adopting a mix of isa rules for next season don't know if that will include the unlimited 4 and 2 classes but being the wildcat is a 1000 i could see them opening up the classes for the new cars coming, also if there is enough interest I'm sure they would be willing to through them into the mix.

THERE IS A MOTOCROSS TRACK ACROSS I-8 FROM THE GOLDEN ACORN CASINO. I AM PRETTY SURE IT IS ON INDIAN LAND. THE GOLDEN ACORN LOVES IT WHEN WE CAMP IN THEIR PARKING LOT. MAYBE WE CAN CHECK WITH THE TRACK & THE CASINO & HAVE A UTV RACE ON THE SUNDAY OF THE 4TH ANNUAL ROBERT ROSAS MEMORIAL RIDE. IT IS NOT AS LONG OF A COURSE AS A GRAN PRIX. THIS WOULD BE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND (TENTATIVELY)

i should be getting several allotments in new mexico soon. ill look into it.

If you need any help, let me know, I'm an Arctic Cat and John Deere dealer in the northwest corner of NM. I've got some contacts in racing here in NM...

It would be great to extend WORCS or similar into NM and maybe even TX, run it in local levels and progress towards a regional event much like the Regional LOORS is doing...

Do you all have Supermoto Races like the midwest(KS, OK, TX, etc..)where you race paved tracks @ high speeds, then GNCC trails, then MX whoops, jumps, etc? Challenges multiple styles of racing on one track. :D
