Ultimate Rim/Tire Combo and Roll Cage for BITD & SCORE

I'm a newbie to sxs off road racing. We're building an XP for BITD and some limited SCORE events. Can you guys give me your take on what you think the best tire and wheel combinaton is? Seemingly you want to run the same size on all 4 corners. I just want something reliable but doesn't have too much rotating weight. Any comments based on experience would be appreciated.

One last question...if you were going to replace the stock XP cage what would you go with? I tipped mine over testing and bent the stock cage like 2". I was in a 15-20 MPH corner max. Balls out in the desert there's going to be something much more stout sitting above my head. It's just a matter of what to go with. Something low profile would be nice. We're running a fuel cell under the seat so I'd like to keep the CG as low as possible. Again, any suggestions?

Thanks,

Danny

As far as tires and wheels I would look at what Jagged X is running on thier BITD XP.

I think when dealing with the speeds the XP will run at I would look for a weld on cage. Make it more like a one piece chassis. Again look at what Jagged X has done with thier XP.

Pretty sure it is going to have to be a weld-on cage looking at the BITD rule book. You can check it out on their website at BITD.com, or a more updated one is available at utvra.com.. That will probably answer a lot of your roll cage questions.

As far as tires go I'm not much help, I am interested in everyone else's responses though!

Your cage will definately need to be welded to compete in BITD or SCORE. our racecars are basically build around the cage. We start with a bare frame, build the cage to spec and then some! Then build the rest of the car. We use .095 1.5" chromoly tubing for the main cage and tig weld all of our own cars. We have mig welded cars for customers by request but recomend Tig. The rest of the build is a mixture of .095-065 chromo in various sizes depending on purpose. all structural plating and gusseting is made from Chromolly plate.

Tires and wheels are highly debated by many. We are running 30" BFG KM2 on 15" OMF beadlocks. They work great for us. This is not a budget package however. We had many years of success with maxxis bighorns, running tire balls also on OMF beadlocks.

Feel free to call the shop and speak with Justin or Brandon

Ya, I talked to one of your guys yesterday. We're going with the same set up you are running but am going to keep an eye on the 28 inch deal I hear Maxxis is cranking out for the desert. Again, just a newbie gathering information...but trying not to show up at the gun fight with a pocket knife either. Anyway, I've asked a lot of Q's on this site and you all have been cool about giving me the strait up scoop...thanks. Looking forward to seeing ya'll at the races if we ever get this damn XP finished. Almost wishing I would have bought a used one race ready..damn this is a lot of work and $$ to do it right.

Jagged, like everyone else I am on a weekend-warrior budget, so would like to stick with the Bighorns and ITP beadlocks that I already have. But.. I am worried about their speed rating in a DSR1 car.. Did you, or heard of someone else, have problems with their bighorns coming apart with the add'l power?

I am kind of leaning toward getting rid of my bighorn/itp setup and going with 30" BFG's both for clearance and speed rating, I hate to do it though!

Thanks for the help

I have run both Maxxis Bighorns and Viprs on the Bobsled with very good results. I have never heard of anyone having speed or power related issues with either of these tires. Some short course SR1's were running Bighorns and again I have never heard of an issue.

BFG Test for cfyca

I'll give you the benefit (value to be determined) of our testing cfyca. We've got us a couple rooms in Goldfield, NV at the Santa Fe and are going to press the fun button on this XP as long as long as it will take it heading to Vegas. We have a 3/4 finished XP, some 30 inch BFG's (thanks to Jagged for pointing us in the right direction), some used 15 inch (wrong offset rims) and and 2 satellite cell phone between me and my dad. If I don't die in the meantime I'll give you a comprehensive report as to tire performance when I get back to Cali and take a shower.

Vegas to Reno Course

Since I got my dad to spring for two rooms in Goldfield, NV I was wondering if anyone has a source/map/info/f'n something I could review while residing in the lap of luxury that could show me the approximate route we're going to take in the '12 Vegas to Reno. I figured if I'm out there I might as well try to learn that as well. Any help bro's? I know they change the course but some ideas of what trails to take from you all would be much more credible than the local 1/2 passed out at the saloon.

I heard some rumors about a Vegas to Reno and back to Vegas deal in the works. how cool would that be. As fo routes.. no telling? all the roads out there are pretty much the same. Good opportunity to get used to your GPS. giver hell! Let us know if you need anything.

When was this trip, have you hit the trail yet? Just curious how it went!
