The 30" vs. 32"- Thoughts on Both

Everyone is always worried about the effect of Power and the belt. Don't forget the, Wheel bearings, Steering rack, Balljoints, A-arm bushings, shocks, etc, etc.
 
They weigh 30.6 LBS on a postal scale. They are litter than the tires that come stock on the XP1000 and we got 0 flat tires at the Baja 1000.

WAIT A MINUTE - I think your talking about a 30" tire weighing in at 30.6 right? per current rule you were not running 32" tires correct

If the new Maxis do weigh 30.6 any one want to buy my dismounted 32" ITP's, My shaved ITP weigh 39.1 pounds

Yeah I am talking about 30'' tires Maxxis does not have a 32 yet. I will be testing some soon but I am not sure if I will make the switch for the same reasons that our listed above

If the new Maxxis 32 weighs 35 lbs or less I don't see it putting that much more strain on the components. A lot of that will be dependent on wheel offset but that is the case regardless of tire size.

Given both are on 5+2 wheels a 32 only has 9% more leverage than a 30. Putting the 30 on a 4+3 wheel will add a lot more stress than that.

Wayne I bet when you test a 32" you will want to make the switch. You will be surprised how much faster you will be, how much smaller the holes are and overall how much better ride will be. You like many others will find a way to make your car handle the 32" tire as the greater benefits will out weigh the short term issues found with making the switch.

Its only 2 inches, it cant be that big of a deal?? I too thought the same thing, until I rode in a car that was making the switch from 33" to 35". Wow it was a major improvement. Then when the class 1 car when from 35" to 37" again its only 2 inches. And yes there was allot of improvements the Jimco class 1 car needed to handle the big, heavy 37" tire. But that car (Lofton's) was a contender for not only class 1 wins, but BITD Overall's, which it did a few times on 37's.

It was only a few years ago that UTV's were racing the "big" 28" tire and then 30's came out! Some stuck with 28's until guys like JaggedX started running 30" Light Truck tires and were winning. Slowly everyone else made the switch to 30's or got left behind. The UTV tire manufactures started making 30's common. Now RZR XP's come standard on 30's.

Its not only the weight of the tire but the increase in leverage with the taller diameter.
 
I think Yamaha choosing 27" tires was probably the worst thing they could have done, as the SxS world progressed past that a couple years ago. I would love to see BFG make a 32" version of their new Class 10 35" tire that's winning every race.

Couple 27's with tall gearing and it makes going to a 30" tough, let alone 32".

Yeah, Yamaha really pissed me off! Tiny 27 inch tires, no low range, tiny axles, and tall gearing! I thought about adding a planetary between the motor and tranny, but that only adds a low range. And I didn't think that anybody would come out with different gears for the actual transmission, but it looks like I was wrong on that! Oh well, I love my razor turbo! And I'm really going back-and-forth I'm putting 30 inch tires on her or 32's. I keep saying to myself wait for some lightweight 32 inchers the come out.

Glamisfan, how light would they have to be? The Mongrel is 38 and the ITP Ultracross is 39.6, ballpark with a 30" Tensor. FWIW my 2 seat Turbo pulls very strong with the Mongrels, and I haven't even clutched it yet.
 
Any 32 below 40 lbs I'd consider light. The Mongrels are too round for me. I want a flat profile. And the ITP's 32 only comes in a 15. I really like the Arisun Aftershocks and the Maxxis Liberties. I want to buy 2 front stock rims so I can run them all the way around. I think I should wait till next season (October) to buy, so I have more choices of 32's.

How is the handling with the 32" Mongrel's? Is it squirly? Does it spin the tires a lot, or do they hook up and go? Are you happy with every aspect of them? Any specific info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Very pleased. The Turbo has plenty of juice to turn them. I know square profile tires are "en vogue" but I'm curious if they actually work better, or just look like truck tires. The Mongrels slide really well, and hook up pretty good in washes. I'm on 14" beadlock wheels, running between 16-20psi. Hard to beat the performance for their 38lb weight, and they wear good.

If I were you, it boils down to the Mongrel or the ITP Ultracross R Spec. Damn near every desert racer is running them, so they must be solid too.
 
Welp, I joined the 32" club today! Yesterday, a friend of mine was putting around for 5 minutes before our first ride of the week, he took a familiar jump, and someone had set or more likely had a 12" Boulder fall out of their vehicle, (fire pit)? so when he landed, he pinched a rear sidewall and ruined his tire. So I got to thinking about those 32" Mongrels that my local dealer had for $150 each. And I could sell my friend 1 or 2 of my stock tires to help him and me.
So I go to my dealer today, and as I'm looking the Mongrels over, the parts guy says he had 4 of them outside, with only 3 miles on them, for $100 each!!!!! $400!!! Free mounting since I bought my RZRT there! And no tax!!!
Says a guy bought them, and while in Glamis the front tires would rub in the G outs. I told him that I'd read that they rub a little, but not enough to worry about.
So I jumped on that deal!!! Sold one of my tires to my friend for $70. If I can get $225 for the other 3, then I'm only $95 into these tires!!! So stoked!!!
I ran them at 17 psi this afternoon at Superstition. Did desert, washes, rock climbing, and sand dunes. I mostly followed my friend, who has a stock xp1k with stock Bighorns, at 14 psi. They did everything that his car did. I was especially surprised that they compared to the Bighorns during some low range crawling that was 75% sand and 25% rocks. They felt great in the washes. They felt great everywhere!
I mounted them on the stock wheels. The fronts did rub 2 or 3 times over a couple hours of riding. Top front of the inner fenders, just behind the lights. No biggie.

That's a sweet deal! I would have made them fit my 900 for that price! Haha. I love my rzr since I switched to 30's from the 28's so I'm sure it feels about the same as you guys going from 30-32's.

32" Mongrels are a tight fit. I have very little rubbing but my wheels are a 4+4 offset. There is a noticeable power difference at least with a NA car even after clutching. The 32's are 1.2 seconds slower 0-60 than the 30's but I do like the 32's in that they "roll" over everything so much easier.
