The fastest race report ever written!!! Two screen shots from my Ipad and boom race report done!! Haha, just giving you a hard time Reid. I did not go to the race. I heard you had won and was watching the live feed in an effort to grab a screen shot. I tuned out for a few minutes to get some ear plugs. When I looked again you were gone. Sorry buddy.

I would also like to say congrats to marc and his team, as well as a huge thanks to Todd Romano and Tonka offroad for giving us an opportunity to wheel the car for the 250. We started off at the back of the pack, and the tonka/cat is no stranger to the desert but has also suffered some disappointments in its desert history last year. It was a last minute decision to enter the race and we spent many hours after our normal jobs prepping the car and trying to bring it back after its long rest from the 1000. It was no easy task I can assure you. We started off steady but suffered a very unfortunate 2 belt failures in the first 20 miles. The terrain was soft and rough and we were probably pushing a bit hard trying to get through some traffic. Finishline Racing built an amazing suspension and this car can punish the whoops when it's moving forward. After the quick mishaps in the first 20 it seemed things were moving steady. I believe marc was stopped for a second somewhere near rm 30ish. We passed by and were trying to keep the belt cool and before we knew it he found a great line and passed us back. Next thing we are battling a bit back and forth and chasing them across the dry lake. It seemed like time was standing still as we were only gaining what seemed like feet over the next several miles. We eventually got by for a bit and again marc found a great smooth line and answered back. This went on right up until about rm70 where our day would end due to a mechanical failure beyond repair. While it was an even shorter race for us. We still very much enjoyed it and could not have had more fun. Again congrats marc it was great to see you pull off the win.

1932 Race Report:
First off congrats to Marc Burnett and Derek Murray for getting first and second at the SF250. Also congratulations to all of the Pro UTV finishers, and I think we got 12 out of 14 across the line. The Pro UTV field continues to grow in SCORE and again we were the third largest class.

For us the race was very fun, but it was a very weird day. We heard at the drivers meeting that the Summit and the top part of Laguna Salada were completely washed out and impassible. Soooo....on race day we monitored Weatherman and discovered that the they re-routed and shortened the course around this area and the Car/Truck start would be delayed. This was disappointing to me and Jason because we had done our best recon in this area from Valle T to the road crossing. Oh well!

We drew the 4th starting position and I think we went off the line just after 2 pm. We had moved past the three Utes ahead of us by RM 12 and had passed about ten other cars/trucks in other classes. But our belt was getting hot so we decided to back off. By the time we got into the whoops at RM 20 we had lost 4wd, which made driving in the whoops to Morellia Junction very difficult in a short wheel base UTV. We just putt putted along until we could get to our crew at RM 40. Brandon checked all of the connections and figured that the switch had come un-plugged. So we lost about four minutes here and when we took off we had only had a two minute lead on Glascraft.

We hauled azz across Laguna Diablo into a wicked head wind. We caught a SCORE Lite coming off the lake but we again lost 4wd. So we just cruised up the wash to Matias, where we met the Bill and Bill show in the PBR chase truck for fuel and 4wd fix. They couldn't reattach the electrical so we tore the top of the dash off pulled the switch and taped and zip tied it so we would finally be done with this issue. Here we lost about 14 minutes and again Glascraft was two minutes behind us. So we got after it going up the Mike's loop, but is was now pouring rain and it had been raining in this area for a long time. There were crashed cars everywhere in this section, but super fun rallycrossing the RZR through the baby-chit mud. Jason had a jacket on, but I was too stupid to have one so I was soaked from head to toe.

At Valle T the course would have turned left and gone up the Goat Trail, but due to the storm we were redirected south on the highway for around 45 miles. It rained for about half of this highway section and we met our crew at Borrego for a splash of fuel and our light bar. Here we were redirected up a new 12 mile section where we would then intersect the course at RM224. This rocky crap really sucked but we were able to get by a few more trucks and buggies. We got to RM 230 and we lost power steering. It was weird so we met our crew at RM 240 for a quick look, but when we stopped the car died. We jump started the car and took off but about two miles up the road the RZR went into limp mode. Soooo...we pulled off the course, and tried to call the team but we had no power. We jumped out and Jason went to work on the electrical while I shut off everything and then restart the radio. I was able to get word to the crew of our 20. They met us about five minutes later and they went to work on the electrical. We thought we had lost the stator but were not sure. So we decided to change the battery and try and limp the final 30 miles to the finish. We were down around 30-35 minutes and we were just trying to crawl to the finish with all of our electrical stuff turned off and only running the stock headlights. During this down time we saw the Glazcraft and the Tire Blocks car pass us. About 15 miles from the finish we broke the sway bar and it was banging around back there, but obviously we couldn't do anything about it except drive the rollie pollie thing the rest of the way. But as luck would have it the two cars that passed us were both broken down and we thought we might be leading again. About 10 miles from the finish Jason thought that we were now charging again and we turned the radio back on and the lower Vision X lights. We saw some bright lights in mirror and we figured it was the Derek in the Canned Hammer. So we put the hammer down, but knew that they were likely going to beat us on time. We crossed the finish line and they were right behind us. We congratulated them on the win, but learned from George on the podium that the Burnett 1905 car came in a half hour ago. After the race a lot of people were questioning this because they hadn't seen them all day. But the bottom line is they must have done more homework during their pre-run than the rest of us and got by with better lines in a section where the course was running VCP to VCP. So Kudo's to them. It was really fun hanging out and drinking beer with the other UTV finishers after the race. Our class is very tight knit and we all get along with each other.

Even though this is the worst finish for the 1932 car since October of 2012, we fought through our issues and got our brand new XP1000 on the box. Thanks to our very small crew of JXWS, JXBS, Bill 'Santa' Rowe, Mussle Mark, and Dakata...plus long time co-dog Jason. The team would also like to thank Polaris, Jagged X, Walker Evans Racing Shocks, CR Designs, Muzzy Exhaust, OMF, Vision X and finally 'La Generale' taco stand. Plus let's not forget Joey D from UTVUG. Woot...woot!

Again congrats to all of the winners and finishers. See you at the next one. Let's get some of the other BITD guys at the SCORE IV250. It would be great to see over 20 Utes show up there.

Reid congrats to your team for the W and all the other finishers. Mp you guys broke a sway bar?!?!? Or just a sway bar mount?

It's all good, Rusty. As I did with Joey, I made the mistake of assuming you were in attendance at the race, and just left us out of your report. I regretfully posted without knowing the facts. Our first win was bittersweet for me, and I allowed my personal hardships over the weekend to cloud my judgement. The Underground has always been equal opportunity reporters for all of the manufacturers and teams (with the exception of privately funded videos that lean towards specific manufacturers i.e. Ploaris). We are greatful that even in the Polaris funded videos, that you are given the freedom to include coverage of other manufacturers and teams competing against their brand. In the future, I'll try to refrain from derrogatory comments until I have all the info.

Thanks Jim. You were ther first to post our win here, and your friendship is greatly received.. I wish I had access to the web so I could have boasted loud and proud as our victory developed. We'll hopefully see you guys at the Mint, where the Monster Mav will have a much larger challenge, logistically and terrain-wise, than Baja.

Reid, I would have probably Gave you guys the congrats when I posted....but I try hard not to jump the gun. As we all know at that point it was still un official and was based of me looking a a spotty tracker. Hell look at BJ...didnt he get a huge penalty?

We actually broke a sway bar radius arm. Stiff bar and a short arm. Kind of a bummer it really changes the handling in the sand.

Everyone,
The entire Jagged X team would like to congratulate all of the finishers at this years race. Great effort by the Can AM teams of Burrnett and Murray. Your dedication and efforts are very evident and clearly, The Can-ams are going to be a force to rekon with.

We are very excited to see UTV racing continue its steady growth. We love to see big entry numbers and really love to see more and more great competition. We have been doing this for quite some time and I am very happy to see the class finally developing the respect that it deserves. The competitors in this class are every bit as passionate abut their racing as any other class. We have some great teams in our sport and we also have some great sponsors and manufactures support. It is our job as competitors to continue to help grow our sport thru professionalism and good sportsmanship.

Again congrats to all and See you at the MINT!

BS JX

one other thing,

With all due respect to SCORE. It was unfortunate that we were not able to attend the awards for this race but our team was short handed for this race and several of our team members had commitments that forced us to be back early on Sunday.

again congratulations to all the podium finishers and thank you to SCORE for overcoming all of the adversity and pulling off a great event.

I was curious....I figured it was the endlink or frame mount. Great job on the finish!!! I was chomping at the bit to be at that race....Had I know you guys were short handed I would have been willing to hook up and give you guys a hand.:) since we were not racing.

Cool video, but whats the deal with General tire? I see the General decals are still on the car, suits & listed on the video, yet you guys are not running General Tires in testing or during the race?

I asked this question on the previous testing video and never got a answer. Ive had tire deals in the past would never dare put another brand tire on the car.

I will say that if you asked me the question, I do not recall receiving it. I always respond to members inquiries. I will repeat here that I am NOT a spokesperson for Marc's racing efforts, or for any of his sponsorship agreements. This is my personal outlet for the car I built for him, and its storied life. That being said, GT's main sponsorship is for Marc's Feestylemx.com tour. They also provide him tires for his racing needs, as well as all of his tour busses and support vehicles. Let me correct you by saying that the car was built around the General AT2 tire, and we tested extensively with them. They currently do not manufacture a tire that fit our criteria for the San Felipe race this year, as well as the 1000 last year. They are currently working on a specific tire for our UTV needs, and were aware of our decision to switch tires as needed, until said tires are available. All of the teams chase vehicles, and support vehicles are on Generals, and soon they will be exclusive on the Monster Mav as well. We put the Generals through hell a couple of times during our win at San Felipe while supporting our win, and am anxious to start running them full time on our UTE.

Carnage. In the final miles after the last Baja pits, Marc was in 4th place, around 11 minutes behind Jagged X. It was win or bust at that point, and it looks like we did both! This is the inner front pivot point on the front lower a arm. Driving all out, Marc muist have nailed a rock to do this damage. Thanks to the inner tubular frame connecting the ends of the welded bungs to the outer uni-ball, the joint did not fail. One benefit of building for durability as opposed to lightweight. Note the crack is nearly all the way around the bung where the external plate(s) weld to it. Then note the inside end of the bung, and the weld joint from the bung to the inner tubing frame is still intact. It is a great example of how we designed redundancy into the load carrying components to assure reliability.

Hey thanks for the explanation. I look forward to seeing what type of tire General will build for the UTV's. Also great to hear they are willing to let your team run another brand of tire, yet still be able to keep your tire deal with them. Like I said I've had tire deals in the past, and they were very clear about not running any other brand on the race car. Even having someone throw another brand in the spare tire rack could have voided the contract.

Let me clear the air regarding the tires we ran at San Felipe, as well as the 1000. General tire, through the input of, and testing by Marc Burnett, is in the process of designing an all new UTV tire that will be a purpose built tire for our class. General Tires has approved for us to test and race on other manufacturers tires, in the process of defining the criteria for said tire. This information comes straight from Marc to me, and is the one time in this forum that I AM speaking on Marc's behalf. The new tire will be available to racers, and the general public alike. Currently, there is no timeline set for their release date, but we hope to see them around mid-season in 2014. Any more information regarding available sizes or tread patterns is not yet available. Thank you.

The post-repair images. Notice how I added the back up plates to support the butt-welds. After welding, the end of the arm was stress relieved using a rosebud end on an oxy-acetylene torch until the welded area reached 1100 degrees F. The heat range for properly stress relieving 4130 is 1075-1150 deg. I do this process in the evening, with the lights out, so I can accurately see the proper dull cherry red glow of the metal indicating the desired temp range has been achieved. I know this color red from testing and practicing heating metal using digital pyrometers and Tempilsticks to confirm the intensity of the glowing material. If you build using chro-moly (4130 normalized) and don't stress relieve your weldments, then you are merely wasting expensive materials, and sacrificing weld integrity. In that case, you are better off using 1020 mild steel. It is nearly as strong as 4130 (tensile strength), but allows the welded joint much more elasticity before failing. Virtually making it as tough as chro-moly, but without the strict welding protocol requirements.
