Hi all, I am a Search and Rescue member from Glennville Ca. We were involved in the search Wed, the 21st.
First, my heart goes out to all the family members that lost someone.
The search area was massive and with no clue of their direction of travel, covering all possible areas was a real test of all the searchers involved. Many of the searchers were there for multiple days and had search many miles. We searched the area of Freemont peak putting approx. 70 miles on the quad in one day.
If these fellows mistakes can save someone down the line it may let them rest easier.
Dont drink and drive ever.
Dont speed at night.
Leave a direction of travel and stay with it.
Be prepared for the temp. if you are stuck out overnight.
The day time temps in the Randsburg are in the 60's but at sundown the temp drops to low 30's.
This area is extremely beautiful and should be seen, but be very aware of the open mine shafts. I saw at least 50 on wed. many have no fencing or signs and the tailing piles have worn down greatly. Some of them are flooded with ground water.
The timbers are 100 years old and very weak.Never to Be Trusted!
Some shafts are vertical and deep enough flashlights will not reach the bottom. Some are also large enough to drive my F-250 in with out touching the mirrors.
Again Thanks to all the Volunteers whether civilian or SAR.
It was really heart warming to see all the people who gave up time just to come see if they could help in any way.
Please be safe,
Happy Holidays
