Mint 400 race results

Funny i was just talking with my family about this very subject last weelkend. We were saying that Within the next three years you will see 90-100 class 19 teams coming out to race in the desert. With that kind of popularity surly there will be some promoter out there somewhere that will have the backing to put together a professional UTV only race series and that's where everyone will go. It's inevitable with the sponsership money that will be available due to the amount of people that will own utv’s by then. Maybe I'm way off but that's the way I see it going personaly.
I like the way you're thinking, but I really believe casey has the blm relationship locked up and no other series will be able to get land usage to make a significant series.

Sadly for Marc, we had a brand new flame out system sitting on a bench BACK AT THE SHOP! At 2,350 lbs., Marc didn't want to add any more weight to the car. As you hold on to that thought, fast forward to last year's CAR-B-Q at the imperial valley race when Marc lost both a prerunning and $80k race car inside of a half hour or so. When the race car caught fire, the co driver was quick to exit while Marc, with his left foot in a cast or brace of some kind due to a recent surgery to rebuild his shattered heel x had his left leg ZIP TIED TO THE ROLL CAGE in an effort to keep his leg from thrashing around in the car (again, manly Marc at work in the cockpit of his race car, in total conflict of his doctors orders).
This wasn't one if those 1/4" zip ties you secure the plumbing lines to your roll cage with. It was of the 1/2" variety that you secure your spare driveshaft or shock reservoir "with.
Again, for the second time in a year, marc barely escapes a race car in flames. He literally crawled in his hands and knees away from the car as the flames eventually consumed his racer. Again, with the same new flame out system sitting back azt the shop on the same bench. So, one has to wonder if his new RZR is with or without fire supressioin system.
I'm pretty sure it's on his new car.....I seen at had post something about it Via Social Media

both his new 2 seat turbo and his 4 seat turbo have the Fire system installed. with nozzles on top of the engine and on top of the fuel cell. i think that is going to be mandatory in his cars from now on as it should be a legitimate thought for many other teams. yes it adds a few pounds but the safety i would think is worth it. when you are driving in a race car, your mind is on whats in front of you. speeding at 60+ if a fire broke out behind you on the engine fuel system you wouldnt feel it or smell it untill it was large enough for you to see in your rear view mirror or feel the heat. by the time you came to a stop, the flames could easily consume your cabin.

i was testing a car at plaster city recently, a relatively new car out on its maiden voyage at plaster city for testing. i drove away from the trailers and was going to take a few minutes of driving around the infield area at plaster city to warm the engine up and wiggle the shock bolts ect and then pull back over to the trailer to look everything over. i planned to ride around in a circle at 10-30mph for about 2-3 mins and pull back to the trailer to check everything over. i didnt have a helmet on or a suit cause i was just going to warm the engine up and park it. even with a helmet off and nothing impeding my hearing or judgement i never heard the car make a noise that alerted me that it was on fire behind me. i looked over and everyone at the trailer was running towards me and jumping and waving their arms so i looked back to see smoke coming from the car. i was at 20mph at max driving around under the electrical lines shaking the car down and had no clue it was on fire. luckily we were able to get it out without a single problem, it was small, something had shaken down on top of the exhaust and melted and was on fire. small, a single water bottle put it out, but had i been on a full throttle blast thru the desert i wouldnt have known till it consumed the car. i dont wanna say that the fire suppression system should be mandatory, but for you guys sake i wish more folks would take it seriously.

Why would Polaris move their money to a new series? What would be in it for them?

They care about trying to sell more UTV's, They are not trying to sell UTV's to racers, they are trying to sell UTV's to all the weekend warriors that only know about desert racing because of "Robby Gordon" and his "Trophy Truck".

It would be great for the sport of Utv Racing and the Racers themselves to be in an organization that catered more to the UTV's because they do have so many entries but that is only going to happen in a smaller less public series and unfortunately It doesn't make sense from a marketing stand point to pour Polaris money into a series like that.

The one thing that interests me about recent UTV Desert Racing is how many new teams make the financial commitment and jump straight into BITD without 1st racing in a smaller series and getting their feet wet. Why do you think that disconnect is there between the grass roots racing in the UTV class? Is it because of the basic simplicity of these machines everyone thinks they are a "Pro" when clearly they are not, Do you think it is because Polaris has put so much sponsorship money on the table in BITD? Are smaller series not doing enough advertising? Or has BITD and Polaris just done such a good job of advertising that if your not in BITD is doesnt matter what other series your in, like an all or nothing type of deal.

It seems to me there would be an untapped resource of local guys and newbies that want to race but don't want to make the time or financial commitment that it takes to race BITD, reaching these people might be the better route for the smaller series.

You would think as the sport becomes more popular as a whole, they smaller series would see a rise in entries as well but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Im not sure sponsorship has to be exclusive..... Cars were turned away for the mint. Casey has created a great blueprint and it's a good series and will continue to be. I just think it's possible to have a good racing experience elsewhere for as you said those that don't want to pay high entry, tracker, and tech fees and maybe looking for a little more catering to the Utv customer.

I'm not sure too many people here know, but there is a VERY significant person who races in the Pro UTV class who sees the weekly and monthly joke the class is becoming. I would suspect at some point if he becomes fed up with the rules in bitd, there could be a sponsorship pulled.

At the risk of being redundant...

This is the first class I've seen in 25 years of desert racing that is so hung up on the factory involvement. So the only way guys will race is because XYZ mfr is involved??? If Polaris or anyone else pulled out, you'd be done? What happens if the marketing dollars bubble bursts and they are not a title sponsor??????

Having run a single series for points I can tell you: You guys are missing out on some great events by being so factory/series focused and only going where XYZ puts their marketing dollars. I can understand why the 10-15 people the factories heavily support being that way, but it's a big world out there and SNORE, RECORD, CODE and MORE put on some great events!

FYI, in all the other "non show" classes, less emphasis is put on fashion and "sponsorship". Pro 1600, Class 12, Class 10, 11 5/1600 and Class 5 all have a coalition and they are not tied to a specific series and guys vote on events, show up and race. Kinda like an informal Jeepspeed. Rules are agreed, common to the group and they work with promoters on a bonus program. Think how interesting a BITD Parker, SNORE Caliente, MORE Night Race and one RECORD or CODE Baja race would be with 30-40 cars? Less entry costs for some of the other orgs, diversified schedule and locations, common rules... Coalition buy in of $100-200 goes to a top 3 points fund? Create you own CRB from a hat draw of entries at the drivers meeting with a majority vote on any inner class issues agreed to and enforced by the promoter...

I apologize for trying to inject any common sense, wisdom or history. Besides I gotta get back to solving that middle east thing

Snore could have 20 years to get the UTV's. Its the sponsorship that dictates where you race. If Polaris was to go to Snore, so would the 65+ UTV's. Even Big Jim would be there! The class is dedicated by manufactures on multiple levels. Sponsorship is one of them.

Yes Snore is who brought the Mint 400 back, and it was said that it was a back door deal by a few board members who sold the rights to Mad Media. Snore is still a non profit series, where you have a voted in governing board and all the racers are voting members. Those Board members who sold the Mint 400 name then left Snore to operate the new Roger Norman Score series. Many were very upset that Snore did this with the Mint. In hind sight it was the best thing as Snore is not in the position to manage & market it like Mad Media has. While the Mint courses were better with Snore, its not anyone's fault and the BLM has had a big iron fist in where and how we race.

Also if you think running the TT's in the morning and letting the limited have the balance of the day, your crazy! The course is 10X worst after 50+ trucks & HP buggy's with 39's tear it up. This would never happen. Casey would never buy it in a million years. Ford would also be upset as their 1 vehicle "Rapter" class would dnf every race.
When does the limited class run for score\Baja the worst terrain out there. Pretty sure they run after trophy trucks and unlimited cars. Must be a BITD thing to run limited class first, then trophy trucks\unlimited. I wonder when the limited cars run at Vegas to Reno. Things that make you go hum.

IMHO most people are racing BITD to try and get a factory sponsorship. I feel like a lot of people think if they have the same equipment they can run up front and get noticed. If I had the dough to race desert I would have raced SF250 over the Mint any day.

True but they haven't gone over it 4 times.V to R they will be behind Unlimiteds.

I would substitute 'yearly' and 'has became' above.

You have to remember that these guys can't even agree on running the same bumper..let alone whether common sense realities in the class equal the safety-related decisions needed or not. When you start a season and guys are so intimidated(?) that they won't even question that 10 teams are starting in front of them for no reason whatsoever?
"Nerfing" or any other rule being ignored/intentionally skirted 'now' seems unlikely to be discussed (in depth) at a class PowWow.

I agree with the concept..yet haven't witnessed what it takes (especially safety-wise) to hand down a UTV racing class legacy from scratch.

So only point to point can a limited car run behind a unlimited car. But not on lap races kind of weird points.

Yes in a non multi loop race the fast guys start first with slower classes behind. If you did not you would get run over. It's just common sense! But on multi loop races most race series have split the races, slower limited classes in the morning, faster unlimited classes in the afternoon. It's not a BITD thing, they all do it and have for a long, long time. Score's Laughlin race, slower classes ran their races in the morning with each group and race getting by faster until the afternoon TT race. Score's Henderson and Primm was the same way. Limited in the morning, unlimited in the afternoon. The new Score did the same with the Imperail race. Snore's Battle @ Primm and Rage @ the river, slower classes race first, unlimited's and TT's at the end.

If the unlimiteds raced first, the DNF rate would be 75% for the afternoon limited class race and people would bitch, that they are tearing their cars up running in ruts & whoops from 39-40 inch tires.

This is what i had in the back of my mind when i posted my comment earlier. I feel like this is what is going on and maybe driving some people from competing at a "smaller: or "low level".

As hard as it is for me to admit i do agree on the bumper portion, I have seen some bumpers recently that i would consider marginal at best...but luckily that is not for me to make a decision on or deal with the consequences of.

We all have to remember here that there are multi-million dollar corporations and scores of aftermarket companies witnessing (or more accurately ignoring) the multiple safety-related issues in this class.

As offered, making a decision regarding issues this blatant is as easy as a phone call for those with the power to do so. Many more have an
obligation to simply speak the truth for the sake of safety legacies whether they are told to go 'take a hike' or not.
Dealing with the consequences of simply ignoring the above issue and others stated many times up here is obviously a risk that the above parties (and racers) are willing to take for the price of (frankly) who knows what.

That's a pipe dream for most but however unlikely it is possible. There are cars that haven't won a race that are supported but let's face it your average Joe paying his own way makes up 75% of the entries. My most fun seasons racing have been in classes where we were competitively close to each other. That's when I've seen the most comraderie and sense of competition. I'll never beat Lambert toe to toe and neither will many others. I might have a shot at mixing it up with Drew, Brinks, Lopez, Cook and some others on a good day which is what makes racing fun. I already have stories about these guys.....the only one I have about Lambert was how I couldn't get out of the way fast enough! Lol

I think testing the waters and helping grow a smaller series might makes sense for some people. I mean you might actually have a shot at a podium and a pay out.

I'm definitely up for trying something different and spreading the support around. My next race could be Pure and after the Baja 500 I might do the Snore race the following week.

Bullshit. There's no reason you can't go out and compete against Lambert. He has 5 years of seat time. He knows how was that RZR can go, he has a great idea on how do drive in fust. It boils down to he knows his prep employee did it right, front to back and top to bottom. You already spend entirely too much on entry fees and travel to cut corners on prep!

Justin, my point was many don't have the resources and/or talent to run consistently with the top teams at least just starting out. Many guys have regular jobs and families can't afford it. I raced bikes for a long time and never raced in the Pro class. Racing the amateur classes was a blast and I knew at any race I had a shot at top 5. Bitd is a big show but I think a lot of good racing can be found at a growing smaller series for a lot of teams. Bottom line is if you can race Bitd then you can race anywhere except maybe SCORE that's a different deal altogether.
