Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Inaugural Season Champions Crowned

Corona, California (November 3, 2009) - The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series concluded their successful inaugural season with the The Geico Powersports Primm Championship Showdown Presented by E3 Sparkplugs at Primm Valley Motorsports Complex in Primm, Nevada. With championships on the line in virtually every competing class, the final round of the short course off road racing series was broadcast on NBC on November 29th. The exciting action leading up to the series finale can be seen on SPEED Saturday, December 5th at 3&4 p.m. ET.

The Unlimited 4 (U-4) class for four wheel drive 850+ Horsepower Trucks was won by off road racing veteran Carl Renezeder. Renezeder, who holds the distinction of being the winningest driver in short course off road racing history, accomplished the unprecedented feat of winning the Unlimited 2 (Two-wheel drive 850hp Truck) class as well. The Unlimited 2 championship was decided in the final turn of the final lap of round twelve as Jeff Ward, a close second to Renezeder in the standings, was passed by Todd LeDuc, giving Renezeder the cushion he needed to complete his championship run.

Ward capped of his outstanding year with Rookie of the Year Honors in the Unlimited 2 class. In Unlimited 4, Alan Pflueger was named Rookie of the Year after completing a successful transition from Unlimited 2 and taking second spot in the season title chase.

The Unlimited Lite (300hp Light Truck) class was a three way battle for supremacy throughout the season between 2007 class champion and Driver of the Year Rob Naughton, Chris Brandt and Brian Deegan. Naughton's early class domination was equaled by the consistency of Brandt and the competitive spirit of the charismatic Deegan. After a controversial conclusion to the season at the Primm finale regarding a technical issue with Brandt's truck, the hard fought championship crown went to Brian Deegan. In a class widely regarded as one of short course off road racings most competitive of the 2009 season, Jimmy Stephensen took the Rookie of the Year award.

John Harrah won the first championship title ever in the debut of the Bully Dog Super Lites with Chad Leising as the runner-up in the spec truck class. Other notable championship winners were Chuck Cheek in Unlimited Buggy and Bruce Fraley in Limited Buggy as Joe Masek and Sean Geiser were named Rookies of the Year in their respective classes. Chad George, Dan Kelly and Roger Stokes took home titles in the three competing UTV classes while Sheldon Creed won two Kart class championships with Dustin Grabowski taking the third.
