Lasher Motorsports Kawasaki Teryx Finishes the BITD Season in Second!

With the season coming to an end with the completion of the Best in the Desert Henderson Fabtech Classic this past weekend the Lasher Motorsports team has finished the year on a high note. The team finished a respectable fourth place out of 9 cars in the field which gave them a second place in the points standings for the year.

The plan for the Henderson race was to take it slow and easy. As long as the car could finish, the team would sustain a third spot in the season points battle. Mike Lasher and Rick “Wally World†Wallace battled cold weather as the thermometer only read 22 degrees when they started the race. Along with the cold weather, blinding dust made for a slow first lap as to make sure the car didn't get damaged. The team ran the race without a hitch completing two 60 mile laps in just under four hours giving them a fourth place finsih. The 60 mile course was filled with boulders silt and sand! The terrain proved to be no mach for the ITP wheels and tires as they were pushed through the desert with ease from the power of the Lockmann Precision built Muzzy’s motor.

2009 marked the first year that the team ran a complete season consisting of 7 races in the grueling deserts of Arizona and Nevada. Tackling such race as Vegas to Reno “the long way,†the Silver State 300, and the Parker 250 the Kawasaki Teryx built by Side X Side Outfitterz saw over 1800 race miles during the season and was able to finish every single race. With the 1924 Kawasaki Teryx piloted by Mike Lasher and Rick Wallace they were able to obtain a second spot for the Best in the Desert season amongst some great competition.

The team at Lasher Motorsports would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of the people and companies that made this year so successful and look forward to another great year in 2010!

The six race 2010 Best in the Desert season kicks off January 8-10, 2010 in Parker, Arizona.

Thank You Mike Lasher!

I want to take this time to personally thank Mike, Wally, and the entire Lasher Motorsports race team for allowing UTVUnderground.com to be a part of this race season. Not only has Mike become a great friend to myself and the Underground he is also a HUGE asset to the UTV community. He spreads the good word of UTV's to so many people through his work at Side X Side Action Magazine and through his many relationships with people across the community and industry.

Recently Side X Side Action Magazine / PGI Media to whom Mike was Editor In Chief recently decided they could no longer keep the pages open and due to circumstances Mike and the wonderful staff at PGI was let go. This news although shocking and devastating on many levels did not deter Mike from continuing on with commitments he had made to his friends, industry partners, and race team.

Instead of going into professional hibernation Mike picked up his camera and his Amodium AD and headed to Baja to cover the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 with Kawasaki Team Green and Dragon Fire Racing. You see Mike was going to do this as an assignment (if you can call it one, I call it vacation on steroids) for work and these guys were counting on him to be there to cover and tell the story in photo, video, and print. I had even thrown in the towel and Mike as positive as ever and together with a little friendly push from friend and industry partner Reid Nordin set off on another legendary trip that will surely go down in UTV history.

Mike then returned home from Baja and got right to work. Quickly he was back in the garage and wrenching on his Teryx to make sure it was ready for the final race of the BITD Desert Series. Lasher Motorsports and the 1924 Kawasaki Teryx were second in points and making a run for the championship this year and neither hell or high water was going to keep Lasher Motorsports from making it to the Nevada Desert to put their best effort towards bringing home a championship in the BITD series.

Well Mike and the Lasher Motorsports didnt get the win, but they did get second in the championship points which is still a HUGE accomplishment. Despite coming up short in the points running Mike still came out on top with his friends, family, teamates, and sponsors. He had a pass, he could of backed out of these last couple of events and due to the circumstances no one would have complained nor felt any different towards him. Mike instead showed the character that we as friends have come to appreciate and expect and instead rose above the circumstances and showed us just why we like this guy so much.

So my hats off to you Mike, keep plugging away. We look forward to many more races following along and hopefully right there in the desert with you!!!!!
