Help me make the right choice in my purchase.....

I am going to either buy a wildcat X or a maverick in the next 2 weeks. I drove both in a limited area (the wildcat I drove was a limited not the X) so I am unable to really judge which is all around better. There are pros and cons to both. The wildcat X suspension and power steering, also I believe the extended length in chassis would aide in stability but may hamper in tight trails with turns. The cockpit was not nearly as comfortable as the maverick. The mavericks throttle seemed to have a delay and it seemed a little all or nothing, so I was wondering how many of you have done some serious hill climbing in it. I mostly ride black dirt or clay. Sometimes a little rock and sand but that is not my main terrain. I ride at the Badlands in Indiana and the Cliffs in Seneca Il on my atvs. Then my most nagging question is which would be the more reliable utv? I know the wet clutch cats had issues and some are blowing belts quickly but I wonder if that is the driver. Also I have read the cat has oil leak issues but I am wondering if that is few and far in between. Maybe people just post negatives more frequently than positives. Now I have heard the maverick has had internal clutch problems with bolts shearing and scattering in the clutch housing. This is a big purchase for a toy and I would like to get something that I will enjoy that is not a money pit with mechanical issues. I have had over 15 dirtbikes and quads and only once did I ever experience a really bad mechanical issue ( bad crank bearing). So I would appreciate any advice with some foundation behind it as what to get. Please do not just bash one because your bias but real advice would be appreciated. Thank you all.

I was on the Wildcat forum for a year. I did not like their quality control. Or the quality of their vehicles. Way too many problems and way too many motors been replaced. So when the Maverick was announced, I joined the commander forum and did a lot of research on their reliability. It sounded like the Can Am's are built very well. So I ordered a Maverick and picked it up late December. It is truly truly an awesome machine! I am one of the ones that had the primary CVT bolt break, and took out the entire CVT system. The primary is definitely weak spot, but it's doing fine for a lot of people. Just not some of us. I ordered an aftermarket primary, which cost 900 bucks, and problem solved. The motor in it is definitely going to be reliable. At least judging by Can Am's past record. The power is totally awesome! I've done some rock crawling, and it is great for me. Some people will require the QE front differential, which can be purchased for about $700-$900, and then installed. Even with the major CVT problem I had, I would still recommend the Maverick over any other current side-by-side.

Glamisfan did Canam cover the cvt under warranty for you? Also who did you buy the new primary from? Thanks again.

Can Am did cover it. But my dealer told me that only the original 6 month warranty covers the cvt. He said that no extended warranty will cover any part of the CVT system. I got my aftermarket primary from ///AIRDAM, but if I had to do it again I would get the QSC, or better yet the full STM setup.

What's a QE front differential?

Having been on both forums watching for issues. Both have some issues, but nothing I would consider out of the ordinary. In the long run I believe both machines, if properly taken care of and not driven like a trophy truck will be very reliable.

As far as the X I have only see a few threads about belts and who knows what occurred to cause the belt to break. There have been no engine cases leaking on the X, there was one guy who had a leak and it was a lose plug. Also, on the X and 2013.5 regular wildcat they changed over to the Team clutch. They no longer use a wet clutch system.

The only issue I have seen pop up on the Maverrick is the clutch bolt. Not sure how often that is actually happening.

I do not believe you could go wrong with either choice. Just have to figure out which one fits your riding style more.

What's a QE front differential?

Quick Engagement. The Mav comes with their standard front diff, which takes 4 revolutions of the 3 tires that are spinning, before sending power to the one front tire that isn't spinning. The QE only takes 3/4 of a turn, but also requires power steering, because it engages so quick.

If you want go fast through the whoops or rough terrain the Wildcat is the way to go.

Thanks for the information

The reason you felt the delay in the maverick is they use a drive by wire I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But they use that so when your going threw the whoops, or rocky area it will smooth the throttle out so it's not jerky. It's not the same but I have a rhino with a rotax 800 in it and I would buy a can am in a heart beat just because the way my rhino performs with the rotax.

correct sorta. The Maverick has a sport mode that gives you better throttle response, still not like a cable actuated throttle body. When not in sport mode it is very smooth acceleration and has a delay that is hard to get used to.

Art and berts are number one in my book. Just left berts. And i will continue to spend my money there. The utv dept is growing by the day. And utv accessory dept is getting bigger. The wife was even happy. Happy wife happy utv life.

I had a rzr xp and one of my buddys has a wildcat, I was tired of my rzr and wanted something different, I rode the wildcat and I just couldnt get comfortable with it. The wildcat is a nice machine if your hitting whoops and going in a straight line but to me it has way too much body roll coming into the curves that I just couldnt get use to, it was down on power as well compared to the xp. The reason I chose canam was because of the extra power over the xp, the nice interior and it out handles the wildcat easily and right with the xp. Some will say the maverick is top heavy but I dont agree with that, I have over 2,000 miles on a maverick and a xp and the maverick handles just as good as a xp once you get use to the feel of sitting a little higher its just natural. I'm really satisfied with my maverick, 2000 miles later the bushings and wheel bearings are tight as new, I've only replaced a cv joint that was broke due to a tie rod I broke under some abuse
