DOUBLE PODIUM IN VEGAS FOR WELLER RACING
Lucas Oil Off Road Race Series – Rounds 13 and 14

Chandler, AZ (11/8/2011) Adversity is only what you make of it, and after salvaging a podium from the last two mediocre rounds at Speedworld, Corry Weller knew that these next two rounds in the SR1 UTV class at Las Vegas could make or break her championship dreams. Knowing what was on the line, the entire Weller Racing team did what they needed to do, and Weller would finish the weekend with a much needed podium sweep.

“It’s coming down to the wire,†Weller stated, when asked about her weekend. “We knew going into Vegas that this weekend would pretty much seal our fate for the series points, and we knew we had to be on the box both days to pad our lead going into Firebird. My team did their part with a great prep job on my Yamaha, and it was up to me to make sure that hard work paid off.â€

Saturday’s race saw the Weller Racing/Tilted Kilt/Lucas Oil SR1 starting on the pole, and Weller got a good start at the drop of the flag. With some very fast cars in the field and a points race in mind, Weller drove smart and did what she needed to do, ending the day with a second place podium finish after some very intense, down to the wire racing action!

“That was a busy race!†exclaimed Weller. “I was battling cars the whole time – every time I thought I had some breathing room, there would be someone else to go toe to toe with. Those kinds of races are always a good time!â€

While Saturday’s finish gained four points for Weller, the weekend wasn’t over yet, and Sunday’s race would be just as important. With some last minute shuffling, Weller was lined up in the front row once more, and she had every intention of taking advantage of the clean air on what would be a muddy track.

At the drop of the green flag, Weller rocketed into first place and never looked back at the mayhem taking place behind her, which put several racers out of contention early in the race. Like a woman possessed, she increased her lead each lap, until she was all by herself out front by the time the mandatory caution flag waved.

With the field bunched back up and right on her rear bumper, Weller knew she had to be on her game when the green flag dropped the final time – and she was. Weller led the field all the way to the checkers, and could be heard whooping over her radio as she crossed the finish line.

“I was so stoked!†exclaimed Corry. “I mean, we knew we had to come out here and do well, but with such a fast class you just never know what can happen. I got that lead and hung onto it tight – I wasn’t about to let that go! It feels great to get another win for our team, for our sponsors, and for our friends and fans that have been there for us all year.â€

Jason Weller, Corry’s husband and crew-chief, was all smiles after Sunday’s win, adding “We have some breathing room going into the final round in December now, and that’s what we needed to get out of this weekend. We have been working hard for this championship all season, and it’s great to see all of that hard work paying off!â€
