Cost of Winning: The Monster Mav Chronicles

I dont know marc, but what I do know is he is doing his homework when it comes to pre running. When you have time to go help mark the course and prerun for 3 weeks it definitely give an advantage over the competition whom hasn't done those things. I am sure the 25 years of experience in BAJA also plays a huge role in the success you guys are having. I am sure Marc is a great driver and you're prep work combined his knowledge of the landscape is a winning combo. with that said...dont lead me to believe that clutching is holding you back. UTV clutching is not rocket science.
So, this years Mint 400 was just dumb luck then? No pre running, and definitely not as familiar with the terrain as the BITD racers. Didn't help mark the course either, yet still came in 2nd just minutes behind the JX car. That being said, I beg to differ. Unless anyone out there can offer a reason besides driving skills why were doing so well, I stand by my statement that Marc's driving skills are the largest part of our success.

Clutching isn't rocket science on a 1,900 pound car. Add 20%, or 450 lbs to the car, and I'm sure the results are much harder to come by.

I give you Guys Huge Koodoos for what they are worth ... Marks Driving Top Notch and hey Lucky him that he had the time and means to prerun if you wana win you take ever advantage that you can. But the true magic of Mark even being able to finish a race is you and you alone ... can am I don't believe is even close to finishing a Baja race on the podium with out YOU !!!

Im a man I have Money to Count ....Back To Work !!

Ha hee! I love it:D! Comedy-can't get enough of it.

Thanks a bundle, Johnny. Although I always say our car is badass, so are the other contending teams cars. I haven't had the opportunity to get a good look at your car yet, but I've seen most of the other guys cars up close, and they are top notch.

I saw the trailing arms on Cognito's car at Parker this year. Works of art! The spindles on the JX cars, masterpieces of design and function. I'm curios if anyone would care to chime in regarding the unsprung weight of one of the corners on their car. Each corner on our car has 100-105 lbs. of unsprung weight. I'm just curios how much lighter your suspension is than ours, if at all.

you have never worked on a maverick clutch then. Its a rocket scientist that came up with it and it sucks ball. metal 1/2 sheeve what the hell were they thinking.

whats failing? havent heard of any issues.
Hardware engineering is the only area STM had problems with for us. Our car hooked up, never burned or broke belts, had good top end, and great out of the hole performance. The hardware just kept failing, so I compiled a hardware list that would solve the problem, but STM and us kind of parted ways. I can make their rage 6 or 8, which ever was their top clutch, perform reliably by switching out some hardware, and installing wear guides where the spider slides against the outer body. We are now running stock. Go figure.

A podium finish @ Bitd events...ehhh....I'd say Prep, Being consistent, being fast, and a little luck....all in all...it is definitely a good package you guys are bringing.... I am by no mean knocking you guys Reid. I hope to see you guys at more BITD events.

Lol no. Trust us. They fail. But only when leading races.

Right, only cost us 3 wins last year......BUT....in STM's defense they tried extremely hard to make it bulletproof for us. They just dont have the extreme condition longevity in them.

Once STM made the Spider bullet proof it was the slider guides that gave up on us as well. Another thing I will say, our belt temps ran cooler and we never had belt slippage

So, do you know if there'll be an audio link, or will the conversation be trans scribed? Will I need to click on a link to hear it, or will being on the Can-am Facebook page mean that the interview will automatically play?
Jim Mears, you are a hat whore!

They never said who got the hat though.... Did I miss something?

I saw 2 guys get hats. You had to refresh the page every 5 min. or so, then chose "most recent" over the default "Most Popular" setting. I though it took way too long for them to respond, and therefore, the hour went by too fast. They may have been "negotiating" with Marc as to how he answers questions because Marc is no diplomat. He says what he feels and sees. Kind of like you! Do I get a hat? Hey, guys, where are all the hats?:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
