Cal-Neva Extreme to have SxS rockcrawling

For those interested, this season we will be adding 2 classes of side by sides to our rockcrawling competitions. We will have a stock class and a modified class. Our events are in the Tahoe/Reno area. We've been doing some testing and have an idea about how capable sxs's are in the rocks. We don't intend on beating rigs to death and because it's new, we'll start off with reasonably easy courses that will include harder bonus lines. Is there any interest in this from the people on this board? The competitions will be scored the same as the WE Rock National Rockcrawling Series with the exception of a 4 point penatly for a spotter rope, rather than an 8 point penalty. There are plenty of details that I'm sure everybody would like to know, and I'll be glad to answer questions as time goes on. If you have any interest or questions, please contact me @ 530-391-2580 or glenn.bonner@comcast.net

Glenn, good to see you made it over here.

Can you explain this type of event to us UTV folks like we have no clue what a WE Rock event is like?

Thanks,

Jon

Nice meeting you at KOH Glenn!

Sorry for the delay! In brief, Cal-Neva Extreme is a national style rock crawling series. The way the competition works is based on accumulative scoring with the lowest score being the winner. Each team consists of a vehicle, a driver and a spotter. Each team has to complete a course which is usually 3-4 gates, each gate consists of 2 cones. The vehicle has to pass through all gates in the order designed and through the exit gate within 10 minutes or the time specified for that course. While on course if you reverse your vehicle it's a 1 point penalty. If the vehicle, driver, spotter or equipment hit a cone, the penalty is 10 points. There will be bonus gates that if attempted and successfully made, and the rest of the course is successfully completed, a -10 points to your score. All courses have a maximum of 40 points allowable, this means that if you accumulate 40 points before you exit the course you are finished with 40 as your score (less progression points). Progression points – each team is awarded a -1 for passing through a gate successfully. Also the spotter can attach a rope to the vehicle and use it to aid in sucsessful completition of the course the penaity is 5 points. This is a very simple explanation; competition rules are available on our website (Cal-NevaExtreme.com).

Glenn,

I think we got the rules down. How do you plan to make the course different for UTVs?

I think we need to hook up and do a trial run and make sure we video it. Then it will be a much easier sell. Right now, all I see are the buggy courses and you won't get any UTVs to attend.

Jon

I agree Jon, I would love to come up and check it out as we would like to check out the place for a possible event anyways.

The terrain wil not be near as severe as the video above. We will limit breakover climbs and tall drop offs as we don't want to tear up cars. Alot of this competition is going to be about team work between the spotter and driver. Also the spotter rope will be a big tool to help move the car around and keep it rubber side down. Not to say UTV's aren't capable, but to date they are not as capable as a purpose built comp buggy and I do realize this so courses will be set accordingly. I will be glad to work with you guys testing and and filming anytime we can. Lets set a time soon to get this done. We can always do this at my place just outside El Dorado. Call me 530 344-7502 hm/off or 530 391-2580c cell does not work at hm/off so feel free to try either #.:D

Thanks Glenn Bonner

This is something I would be really interested in. We plan on doing alot of rubicon runs this year and this would be a fun comp to do as long as the course is somewhat doable. I love watching the WErock events. This would be a way into the sport at a cheaper lvl too. Looking forward to what you figure out. Keep us posted.

Right on..Finally Rock Crawling...for SxSs....These are great event's to go to..I Know many Rock Crawler's in the reno area...I alway's make a few of these a year:)
