Blow Out on the way home

Just thought I would chime in... not tryin to "one Up" anyone but I had TWO blow outs over the Holidays! one on my way to Glamis and was about Yucaipa and the other was leaving "G" on my way to the River and was at about Blythe.. errr time for new tires for mee toooo!!!!

first blow out ever, and had two in one trip hahahah!!!

I like to report to everyone that PB friend in Winchester is give a great deal, thank you PB. Got 4 brand new tires two for the 5th wheel and 2 for the open trailer. A close look at the tires we removed showed that the opposite side tire from the 5th wheel looked a bit used, so the weight has been on the rear so I will make sure to put the RZR on reverse from now on. The open trailer tires were not bad at all the only concern as that one had cracks on the sidewall but the other one looked ok. I kept the one that looked ok so I can have an extra tire, I talked to Tomas from the shop in Winchester and he said it looked real good for an extra. The only problem is I do not have a 14" wheel so I will need to find one.

Anyway thank you all, I learned a lot about tires this week.

WHEN WE FIRST MET CISCO & VICKY IN 2007 THEY BLEW OUT A TIRE ON THEIR FLATBED ON THE WAY UP TO THE HAMPTONS & ANOTHER ON THE WAY HOME. SORRY YOU GUYS HAD TO GO THROUGH THAT. IT SUX TO GET BLOWOUTS.

Question for everyone, how much do you guys tow on the 5th wheel and with what Truck. I just saw that the maximum capability for a 2002 F-250 is 12,500 lbs. That is amazing to me, it seems very little just wondering what you guys are towing.

So Dry Weight is 7,235
Payload 3,665
So what does this payload include
Water 100 gallons @ 8.35 lbs = 835 lbs
Gas 12 gallons @ 19.4 = 232.8 lbs
= 1067.8 lbs so where is the 2597.2 lbs.
???????
I know, I know go to the scale, I know.

Thanks

Hmmmm

GCVW Truck = 26000
Trailer = 13000
RZR = 1000
Truck Weight 8500

26000
-13000
- 1000
- 8500
= 3500

Shoot, I can fit 3 more RZR's on mine :cool:

You need to get the GCWR not the GVWR for your truck. It's higher. Also make sure you check for towing a 5er. You get a little extra there too.

With the stuff you listed for your trailer:

GVWR 10,900

Subtract:

Dry weight - 7235
RZR weight - 1255
Water weight - 835
Fuel - 232

And you have 1,343 left for other stuff.

Now subtract:

RZR extras - doors, fuel in RZR tank, electronics, etc
Food
Beer
Ice
Clothes
Tools
T.V.
Personal items
Bedding
BBQ
Propane
etc, etc, etc

Jaime what is the GCWR I just looked at my truck and the only info I found was this;
GVWR 8800
GAWR Front 5200
GAWR Rear 6084

A website I just found said the GCWR is 20,000

GCWR = Gross Combined Weight Rating

Includes weight of truck and a towed trailer.

GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

This is how much weight you can carry on your truck includes passengers and what's in the bed of the truck.

So I think this is funny

My GCWR is 20,000
My GVWR is 8,800
So I can tow 11,200
but most people tow around 16K to 18K with these 7.3.

Not quite right there grasshopper :cool:

Forget about GVWR for your case just now.

If your GCWR is 20k, find out the curb weight of your truck and subtract that from the 20k to get max towing capacity,

Example:

GCWR = 20,000
Truck weighs 6,000

You can pull 14,000

yes sir I need to go to the scale and weight my truck and trailer. Thank you Master.

You’ll find noone knows anything at most gas stations w/scales. When you go to the certified scales you’ll drive up on 3-scales, reads the front truck tires, rear truck tires or tongue, and the trailer tires. That’s the weight we want to compare our tire and axle rating’s. The certified print out will also tell the total weight of the entire rig. You’ll also take note of your balance, for me fully loaded my tongue was high not in range of 10-25% of the total weight of the trailer(which I unhooked to get or calculate if you know your loaded truck weight) so now I put the XP in back and bike in front to help. By unhooking and getting the total weight of the just the trailer, you can also compare it to the gross trailer tow rating(bumper or king pin)…..the F-450 is highest in it’s class 24,500lbs pin.

I’m running close to max load everywhere so I keep all my tires @ max pressure to get the max rating, but the rides rougher. I use to run trailer tires, but they’d blow all the time. Now I run a Firestone LT Transforce HT E rating $140, get all kinds of wear no blows, but since they are not on a LT no warrantee.

I think when you get up on the scales you’ll get a better idea why the rear tires are wearing more. What’s worse if you are exceeding your axle rating blowing a wheel bearing losing the entire hub/wheel can cause all kinds of damage, repack your bearing’s often and adjust your shoe brakes. I use to listen to all the hype about exceeding these ratings, but after blowing several tranny flex plates and hubs I now stay within them. PB is correct about leaving some pad for dynamic loads.

My fender flares are AL diamond they have bent b4 form tire/wheel issues but I bend them back.

My .02.

Good luck!
