BLUERIBBON COALITION WILDERNESS ALERT!
BLM Director to Attend Meeting in Salt Lake City!
Dear BRC Members and Supporters,
Bob Abbey, National Director for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be in Salt Lake City to attend a public meeting held by the Governor's Balanced Resource Council. The meeting will take place this Friday, January 14, at 2:00 pm at the Utah State Capitol, Senate Building, 210 Committee Room. (See complete details below.) Please note that this meeting will be open to the public with a question and answer session similar to the Secretary Salazar meeting held last April.
The purpose of his visit is to discuss the new Department of Interior and BLM plan to designate Wild Lands. This was laid out in an Order issued by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar just one day after the Lame Duck Congress adjourned. See BRC Alert from December 29, 2010. http://www.sharetrails.org/alerts/?alert=1283
This Order is as complex and convoluted as any validly promulgated law or regulation and has the potential to lock up millions of acres of public lands in Utah. Our staff has conducted an initial review, which is summarized at the following link: http://www.sharetrails.org/public-lands/?section=salazar_order.
DATE: Friday, January 14, 2010 - Public meeting W/ Director Abbey
TIME: 2:00-3:30 PM
LOCATION: 210 Committee Room of the Senate Building directly behind the EAST side of the State Capitol. Parking is available right in front of this building and on the street on the east side of the capitol complex.
