so i need to run a gel cell battery on my pro utv project. i was going to run a full size optima between the upper control arm mounts on my xp900 but it is very large and takes up too much space. does anyone have a recommendation on a battery set up used for racing, i know the old jagged x 900 had a small oddessy and that something im interested in but dont know what will be large enough. i just need the output to be able to handle lights, guages, parker pumper, gps, all that stuff. any help is appreciated, thx

I run an Optima Yellow Top in my SR1 - but I run the smaller one that is about half of the regular size battery. Maybe that's an option for you?

What you need to do is calculate what you max Amp draw could be and then find a battery to fit your needs.

A little secret that not many know about is Power Source Battery's.

Power Source makes a battery called (Power Source Lightning Start) that is the same size as the stock Polaris battery, but it puts out 600 CCA. You can find them for around $130 ea.

PN# WPX30L-LS
12V
30 Amp Hr
600 CCA
Length 6.56
Height 6.87
Width 5.06
Net Weight 22.7
Sealed AGM Maintenance-Free
1 year warranty

Or you can look at the 500CCA battery which is cheaper and 7 pounds lighter.

WPX20L-LS
12V
20 amp Hr
500 CCA
Length 6.88
Height 6.12
Width 3.43
Net Weight 15
Sealed AGM Maintenance-Free
1 year warranty

Another great battery to look into is Power Sonic. We had a single Power Sonic battery last almost 10 years in a prerun buggy. I dont know if they make one to fit in a Polaris stock location, but if your building a battery tray then it would not matter.

thanks yea building a battery tray between upper control arms mounts over diff, ill have to figure the amps, not sure on radios and pumper since i have yet to purchase but im sure it wouldnt different than anyone elses desert race utv

As I'm sure you know, a battery is just a "reservoir" So fit the largest one you can, or want package in your build.
After that it's all about the Stator keeping up. When the stator can't keep up you have to shut things down, for a while.

thx ya i can fit almost anything just needs to be smaller than a standard red top, and thats why i was asking what other racers are running that way i wont have to do any calculating or worry about it being too small
