SXS Machine
Importer, wholesaler,
I always like to poll what people think is going to happen in the industry. If there is already a thread somewhere or a more valid spot I'm still navigating the site so please say so.
Important happenings is that the last of the appeals against the decision that was in Yamaha's favor have been dismissed and Yamaha has been found guiltless. (I think that was the news was it accurate??)
Japanese are a very conservative lot and didn't do many new models while Yamaha was in court, K4 this year and Honda brought out a UTV. Everything else was just upgrades.
Now Yamaha is out of court I'm expecting a flood of new vehicles.
Honda - has a single seated?? racer in development, something aimed at Dakar I believe.
Kawasaki - Has their new motor and transmission in the K4 for real world testing this year while they possibly may have had to go back to the drawing board on chassis having been guzzumped by Arctic Cat and maybe Polaris as well.
Yamaha - Have they been working at all while in court? and if they came out now with a machine they are the only Japanese manufacturer who havent had a racey V-twin and just like the old superbike series I believe V-twin will be the winnig combination. They do have the under stressed TeDiuM (I have always liked them actually) 900 motor and that could be geared up with its 270 degree fake twin crank. So will Yamaha have both a new Ute and a New SXS for Next year?? I have to say I think so.
Suzuki - Calling Suzuki?? No answer yet I think. Pity SV1000 wasted.
KTM - may be a surprise entrant because they have the ultimate in V-twin motors. Just heard them mentioned in a conversation, no more than that.
Can Am - Will we get a racer? They haven't neccessarily been inclined to go down that path even with ATV's with much conviction. May not have the R&D dollars to do so but have a great motor to build on so just need a chassis and they have pretty good baseline to build off. Thats one of the reasons I think they may not go a further racer config, it can currently work as is with Mods.
Polaris - While not neccessarily an inventor they have been an innovator to get SXS's running. But will they have run out of model releases and payback to get race winners out there. With say two major competitors out there now one can equal them in some instances and the Arctic Cat suspension is better in theory and testing but now comes the test of time. I think Polaris may develop an in house after market Racer conversion kit or a 500 run ltd edition super SXS model to try and match the handling of the AC and level that playing field.
Arctic Cat - I'm going to call them a sit for a while, maybe they have a 4 seater up their sleave, heard nothing.
Don't know if anyone else will come up to speed.
Just a rumour mill post, if you havent heard anything what would you like to see from a particular manufacturer. Go nuts!
