That's right, the Big Red Machine invited UTVUnderground out to the Carolina's this week to spend time with their team and learn more about the current and future UTV offerings from Honda.
I will do a full story on this adventure in the coming days but I am excited to share a couple of things. The first is this: Honda used the Big Red as a way for them to stick their nose into the industry. It was described by them as a way to stick "a toe in the water". But their latest offering, the Pioneer 700 and Pioneer-4 according to Honda is their way to say "hey, we are here and ready to play".
Like the statement Yamaha is making with their Viking debut, Honda too wants UTVUnderground readers to know that this is just the first of many planned offerings in regards to UTVs. While we will get a chance to get close to their testing facility today, they made it clear we won't be allowed on the track because there are in fact machines be tested and developed that corporate just isn't ready for us to see yet. They made it clear, Utility, recreation and SPORT are on their hit list and these racing inspired UTV department leaders you can tell are excited. I mean, you know they don't just have UTVUnderground here to talk about utility, they know what butters our bread!
Something else I want to share. The Big Red which will now be discontinued in trade for the new Pioneer lineup, was being manufactured in Mexico. Alongside the state of South Carolina, Honda made a $25million + investment to move their UTV manufacturing here, into the good ol USA! This investment not only has and will create more jobs for Americans, it also gives the Japanese based company the ability to claim that their UTVs are proudly Made In America. That is bad ass!!
I type this up as we head south out of Charlotte to SC to the Honda plant. I am fortunate to be able to Stand alongside Hondas employees and even South Carolina's Governor in watching the very first Honda Pioneer production unit roll off the assembly line. We are honored to have this opportunity. From there we will head outside to one of their own UTV and ATV test trails where we will put some miles on a couple Pioneers to see what these trick new utility machines are all about.
Stay tuned, The Big Red Machine is here, and they are ready to play ball!!!
