Silver State 4wd&UTV Jamboree in Northern Nevada

Its been Three years since I stepped away from the King of the Hammers, My work to help save Johnson Valley is complete, so Its time to have a party.

In partnership with the Nugget Casino we are going to build an event unlike any in the OHV industry. A full week of entertainment that ends with the HellsGate Grand Prix. Three classes of racing on a purpose built track for UTV's and Unlimited 4WD vehicles. Grandstand seating for 6000, and cold beer. The fun last all week with tons of stuff to do in Northern Nevada, from floating the Truckee river, hitting the trails, or enjoying Nevada style gaming.

SXSPerformance will be leading a run to Virginia City where you can drive your UTV's into the town that Mark Twain started his writing career and helped finance the wealth of this great nation. Finish the day off at the PRP Seats Parrot head Pool Party at the Nugget Casino. Yes the famous PRP party from Endless Summer is moving to the Silver State Jamboree.

Plenty of trails to run in the area if you want to scout out on your own or with a group.

The best part is we are a days drive from the eleven western states, we negotiated an aggressive room rate with the Nugget Casino, and we have a hell of a party in the works for the whole week.

Plenty of more details to work out. I am still building the website and the event so we should have a lot of details to follow. Nothing like having an off-road event at a Casino. I will try and update this thread as details emerge.

I had a few PM's regarding racing during the #SSJambo, and thought I should just add the response here.

At the end of the event week, we will finish up with closed course racing. I am still working out the details of the course with the property owner, but here is the 10,000 foot view.

I am going to use the ISA Rules. A lot of time was spent developing this rule package and I think it works well. Yes I understand that most will race Production 1000. I also understand that we could have a small car count in the lower classes. My goal is to provide a place that allows a large selection of people the chance to race. More important I think everyone should be aware of what my vision is for this race.

Entertainment.

In the past I have developed races designed to attract the racer. Provide an exception experience for the racers, and give them a good product that the media would embrace.

With age come experience. After promoting many racing events I can see room for improvement. If we (industry partners, racers, and my team) can provide an entertaining experience for fans, than entry fees can stay manageable, I can attempt to attract TV, and we can sell cold beer to as many people as possible.

It cost a metric sh!t ton to host a race, so in most cases the costs are passed on to the racers. What I hope to do is find another revenue source to offset the expense. FANS! That said I need to create an entertaining race, and I need the racers to become entertainers.

I believe it will take between 3 and 5 years to accomplish this goal. Simply put, 25 UTV racers is likely not going to support the event in the long term. While its a good start, I need a full field. For this reason I will run all classes at the same time, and pool the purse to the over all winners. Class winners will receive trophies.

As the event shakes out the classes will adjust on their own. Some will grow, and some may discontinue. Personally I don't see a lot of Rhino's racing in the long term, but for now we have a class for them no matter if its stock, our completely modified.

If we have a massive turn out this year, I will split the classes to reflect a sensible structure. Please understand I have given this a lot of thought, and hope to grow this beyond grassroots racing. If you look at the format changes I have made to the Unlimited 4WD class you will see I have room to grow and provide entertainment. (on the website)

Now on to the track.
I am still in negotiations with the track owner. The track is currently configured for the Lucas Short Course series, and I believe its the best short course track on the west coast. My plan is to build a permanent Unlimited 4 WD course that uses the 5000 feet of elevation change and brings some of the hardest obstacles ever run to the comfort, safety and view of the grandstands that seat 6000 people. ( we have room for an additional 3000 in VIP suites) The course will utilize key features of the lucas track, but lets face it, U4 cars are not exciting on a short course, they need incredible obstacles to be exciting. I plan to build that.

What does that mean to UTV racers?
I have watched UTV's race on this track, and its just not exciting. While it looks like an absolute blast to drive, the cars are too small to be as exciting as the Lucas trucks.

2 ways to fix that. Run more cars at the same time, or redesign the track. If budget allows I hope to build a specific track for UTV's. Something that uses some of the Unlimited 4WD features, but not stuff that will kill your machine. I will also need to tighten up parts up the track to make it exciting for the fans.

I am committed to giving the UTV industry a fighting chance, and not be a side show. I positioned the final race of the day directly in front of the main event. I will be paying great attention to the reaction of the fans during the entire event. I need them to leave this event wanting more and being blown away at the entire event. This is the only way we can grow.

I hope to have a few UTV racers, and industry leaders give me input on the course, but understand I alone will take ultimate responsibility for the success or failure, so I will have the last word.

I have the great pleasure of having a UTV racer and advocate for the industry "Bebe" as a UTV liaison for this event. Bebe will be the go to person for everything UTV. She is already working to gain valuable feedback that is helping shape the event.

Entry fee and purse?
I am still working on this. As well as sponsorship costs. Because I don't have the final budget for what it will costs to build the track I can't in good conscious apply an entry fee. It would be easy for me to throw a number, but it would be high to CMA. What I am considering is a sliding scale that will allow the lower level classes a lower fee, and the faster classes which will be in the running for the purse pay a higher fee. I don't have any interest in charging additional fees for a tracker or insurance. One fee that's it.

I an currently working with Wes Harbor from VORRA to handle all scoring and timing. He is exceptional when it comes to scoring an off road race. I hope to have registration, and entry fee information available by the end of March.

Separate room codes. The business plan for this event requires participation from local casino's, the tourism board, the city of Sparks, and other municipalities to build a long term self sufficient event. The most important thing I have learned is that we must track the money we spend in the local economy.

A big part of my real job is tracking big data, and I am laying the ground work to record as much data as possible so I can explain what we bring to the area. Truth be told, the room codes all get the same incredible rate. By separating the racers and vendors from fans, I can see what each of the three subsets are driving into the event.

There is a lot of moving parts in this event, based on what I have learned over the years. I hope to attract trail riders, thrill seekers, racers, and fans from all over the country. We have a full week of activities brewing, and obviously in the first year we are leaving room for growth.

I can't promise its going to be perfect, I can promise I am committed to giving the UTV industry an equal chance to take ownership of this event. UTV's are not an after thought, they are part of the foundation. We have an amazing opportunity to build an offroad event that allows us to trail ride, experince many forms of outdoor recreation, and enjoy the hospitality of Nevada style gaming, and night life.
