Rugged Radios Commander Install Thread

Hey Guys!

We were lucky enough to have a customer come down and drop off his brand new Commander 1000 for a couple days so we can design and build a mounting setup for it. It didn't take us very long to figure out a place to put it. It was either the huge glove box or a spot right next to the steering wheel. We decided to build a faceplate that will go right next to the steering wheel and have it powder coated a matching black. Our goal is to have the system look like it was meant to be there from the factory. Since the location of the faceplate is basically just a plastic box we are also going to have to come up with a brace that will hold the radio and intercom. I'm going to be posting up the progress of the faceplate and install so you guys can see how everything turns out. Check out the location I'm talking about below!

Here's a photo of the Commander faceplate that we machined. We photoshopped it on to the plastic of where it's going to go. It's currently in the shop getting powder coated. We'll post more photos as the job is being completed.

Last night we stayed late to work on the install. We took some measurements and cut a hole into the plastic to fit the new faceplate. Once we got everything mounted, we had to fab up a bracket to help brace the radio and intercom. Other than that bracket, the install was super easy and went as planned. I think with the black powder coating and location we chose, the new faceplate is the best looking mounting option for the new Commanders. We’re going to start the production on these new faceplates early next week and should have them up on the website by the end of next week!

Everyone at Rugged want's to thank Logan for being super generous about letting us use his Commander to design a faceplate. We are very happy with the way it came out! The face plates are already in production and should be ready to go by the end of the week.

While we were at the Glen Helen Ultra 4 race this weekend, we snapped some photos of logan and his Commander. It looks sweet, and Logan's fab work was awesome! Here are some photos to prove it :D
