Took a trip with the family and some friends this summer from McCall to Yellowpine, Idaho. It's an absolutely georgeous route! We started out from our home in McCall, went through Lick Creek meadows then on to Lick Creek road, past Little Payette Lake and up and over Lick Creek Summit. The summit is stunning with all it's crazy rocks and a beautiful little lake up there. After the summit, it drops fast into a wide and steep canyon that has amazing evidence of seriously distructive avalanches from the peaks of the mountains to the floor of the valley. It's breathtaking in spots! You wind up following the Sesech River to it's confluence with the South Fork of the Salmon River. You then head south from there and follow the South Fork till you come to Yellowpine! Yellowpine is an old mining town full of history and has a great restaurant where we had awesome burgers for dinner! There is also a great swimming hole called the Devils Bath Tub that has very cool eroded rock formations - the kids had a great time swimming in it! I stayed on shore, the water is still pretty cold being that it's not far from it's headwaters! The total travel time from McCall in a RZR or 4wheelers is about 1.5 hours so it's perfect for a day trip. There are also many other 4x4 routes starting out near Yellowpine that take you into some beautiful country - I'd like to stay a night or two there sometime and explore more of that area! One of the cool routes we've gone up is Quartz Creek - I'll post some pics of it later. Here's some pics of this trip....
