This weekend was the third running of the UTV World Championship. This event was awesome in its first year but each time it gets bigger and better. This year it has become the largest UTV specific racing event the world has ever seen. The entire weekend was run like a well-oiled machine thanks to great organizations like Best in The Desert, Mad Media and the Martelli Brothers, Polaris RZR and of course Joey “ D “ and the UTV underground. All the ideas and plans were collaborated to make for one outstanding show. We owe a huge thanks to all the companies who gave the UTV racing community such a great opportunity!

The Jagged X team arrived on Wednesday and staked out some great front row real estate. We spent Thursday doing some last minute prep work while watching in awe as the hundreds of race support crews poured in, forming a small city of trailers trucks and RV’s. Every team appeared to be focused and confident. Watching the growth of this sport is nothing short of amazing.

Thursday night was the first UTV world championship Pit crew Challenge. Our jagged X pit crew came up a little short this time but the competition was fierce with the Murray racing team taking top honors. This was a cool event, giving the backbone of off road racing a chance to prove their worth. These are the people that get our cars to the finish line.

Friday Morning, families and racers alike were able to participate in the family fun poker run which gave everyone an opportunity to see the course that would become the battlefield for Saturday’s races. Most were in agreement that this was going to be a fast and furious track. There were still plenty of turns, rocks and jumps to keep everyone on their toes.

Tech and contingency was a virtual showcase of the coolest, baddest, fastest, and best race cars and product ever assembled in one place. Everything UTV was on display and it went very smoothly overall considering nearly 300 race vehicles were on hand to file through.

Race day we were greeted with nearly perfect weather, sunny and warm with a slight breeze. As the day wore on the temps would climb but still below the misery level. The pro BITD desert race was the second race of the day and Brandon Schueler along with Co driver Blake Van de Loo were very happy to have a secure spot on the front row. This is one of the few races that the UTV’s see a land rush start. This is a hair raising experience to watch rows with up to 18 utv’s racing full speed into a corner, side by side and nose to tail. Amazingly there was very little carnage. A few cars tangled, which delayed a couple of the rows for a short time but within minutes there were over 100 race cars storming around the 16 mile track. After ten laps and 160 miles of very intense racing the 919 Jagged X Polaris XP Turbo 4 crossed the finish line 4th within a few minutes of the leader. After the time adjustments Brandon would settle for a fifth place finish. The team experienced virtually zero issues thanks to great products like BFG KR2 Utv tires and OMF Wheels. Our Walker Evans shocks soaked up the chop and our Factory UTV skids kept the vitals safe. Our Varta powersports battery kept the juice flowing and Polaris Engineered lubricants kept things running smooth. We thank all of our product sponsors for their contributions to our efforts, we couldn’t do it without them. We also need to thank hostyle racing products for helping us get our pits in order. We are looking forward to working with Hostyle in future.

Later on race day some of the crew joined in the fun, racing their play cars in the production short course race, taking a shot at winning a new RZR from Polaris. Bill Schueler and Blake Van de Loo would play in the turbo class while Pat Stone would compete in the 1000 Class. Blake would suffer an unfortunate mechanical issue while Bill and Pat would both complete the course finishing mid pack but having an incredibly good time representing Jagged X racing and Polaris.

With consistent strong finishes so far this year the Jagged team finds itself right at the top of the points chase after the first three BITD races. There is a lot of racing to be done this year but the team is looking forward to battling every mile in search of yet another BITD championship.

South of the border

SCORE racingJust to the south, in Beautiful Baja Mexico, the SCORE racing season is just underway with the first race of the season, The San Felipe 250 taking place just a couple weeks ago. Team Jagged X brought their “A” game and a well prepared car and crew to set the pace for this year’s SCORE season. A decent size field that was stacked with some great competition would compete on this 272 mile course which included the dreaded San Felipe Whoops. This race would become a 272 mile drag race for the top few competitors. Leaving the rest of field far behind. Brandon with Co-Driver Pat Stone were able to stay in the drag race with another flawless run putting the 2919 Polaris RZR on the podium in third place. Jagged X will head back south for the Baja 500 in June, Rosarito Desert Challenge in September and then finally the 50th running of the famed Baja 1000 which will be a 1300+ mile trek all the way to La Paz. The team is hopeful for another championship in Score This year as well.
