Henderson 250

Looks like I am going to give the Henderson 250 a go in the Rhino. I have a few questions for the veterans so I can plan logistics.....

1). I know this is a grand prix finish, lap race. How long are the laps?

2.) How many pits are there?

3.) From what I have searched, the UTV's run early Saturday morning and will be done before noon, is this pretty the norm? My wife is back from Iraq for good, so we are using the race as a reason to go to Vegas and party!! Just want to make post-race plans!!

4.) Where exactly does the race take place? Jean? I know that V2R actually starts in Beatty (100 and some miles away) and thats the type of stuff I need to know!

5.) Anyone on here plan on racing?

Any other info would be awesome!

Thanks,
Rob

Rob,

The last two years the contingency is in Henderson- downtown. The race is 2-3 miles out side of Jean (state line) and is 2 or 3 60 mile laps depending on how the bikes finish. They race with us. Last year only one utv got on the 3rd lap. The year before it was only 2 60 mile laps.

Two pits which are very accessible. We have used one chase truck to bounce between the two pits and can beat the UTV there.

Its generally very cold so bring gloves and layer up. It has been 21 to 45 degrees the past few years.

Should be done by 11-12 noon.

Henderson is a fun race. This is where we actually started racing and have been hooked ever since. Look forward to seeing you out there and wish you a great experience!

Derek,

Thanks man. Sounds like a good time! BITD races are always fun as it is, and this sounds super fun! Logistics is always an issue for us, as I dont have a full crew on standby. Two accessible pits that that the chase truck can service makes it even better.

Are we required to have IRC at this race? I have the mount/antenna's, so its no big deal, just curious more than anything.

10-4 on the gloves and warm clothes. We raced Parker the last two years in my old 4400 car and the first year I didnt bring gloves (the rain later in the day made it 10x funner). I always keep a pair on the car in case I forget them in the usual pre-race scramble.

We will just be running Sportsman. This well be the third race, and the first two have been DNF's. Stupid stuff, that was compounded by me not being familiar with UTV's and getting them prepped/packed. I am pretty sure I have it "mostly" figured out, but with my wife driving half, its always a concern!

This is a fun race and with the casinos near by it makes for a good weekend. The pits are only a few miles apart and its about 30 miles for the race vehicle. You can do 1 chase truck no problem.

2 years ago I know we had to run the IRC, but I do not remember if we did last year because we ran with the bikes and quads. Sorry. Depends on how they line us up this year.

Good Luck! See you out there.

Last year no IRC as we ran with the bikes/quads and we were the biggest thing out there. I am guessing this year will be the same. It is a really fun race. If you stay in the casinos (whisky petes was $18/night last year) you will only be like 5 miles from the start but leave from the hotel with plenty of time. The dirt road to the start takes longer than you think and goes in a very round about way to get there.

Last year it was a really fun race. Lots of rocks etc in the first couple miles = take it slow. From there a paved section and lots of sand washes/power line roads. Finish out the loop with a whoop section and start it all over again. Last year we ran a CORE rhino as my Terys was not done. We started almost last and finished the first loop in 4th or 5th place. A loose seat belt strap that got into the clutch ended our race early on the second lap. It just goes to show if you drive smart and keep it going, you can do well even in a single cylnder rhino.

The rhino I am stretching for DSR1 took second last year at this race and almost took first. It started dead last and was not able to finish the second lap in time to start the third lap but had the fastest lap times for the first two laps. A RZR started up front and was able to start the third lap so the rhino took second. The starting order is more important than some think.

Bring your car and have a great time with us. My entry goes in this week and we will be racing my DSR1 or my Teryx. See you there.

Hey Cognito, I raced sportsman in the desert challenge and they gave me #1998. I am planning on racing sportsman in Henderson also. You may want to give them a call about numbers. I have no problem changing if we need too. See you there!

ya i dunno why they had you use that number. I used it for the BWGP and V2R this year, anyway my registration is gone and sent and my car is numbered. Obviously easiest thing for me is for you to use a different #, but it isnt a huge deal.

We are 1999!

I Asked for a rear start. I don't get in until the second lap, and I didn't want Kristen to worry about cars coming up behind her.

Gonna be a blast!!

Rob

So, what does the field look like? Who is racing? I know we will have Murray,Parks, and Jaggedx! Who else?

Cognito & a rhino in sportsman

Post up , who else , Cory? Deere?

I guess my new RZRwrap makes me invisible! :) we will ne there just not sure what number they are going to give us.

The #1930 Fabtech Team will be there. A little concerned because I'm sure the rules will change somewhere in the middle of the race so be careful of what you think is right or wrong! As we learned in Parker finishing a race almost 2 hours over the time limit does not mean DNF it means you get finishing points! It would be great if our UTVRA representative to BITD made a stand and stood up to this injustice but I know better! See you all in Henderson.

Sean, I am not sure what you are saying. Can you be more specific. Who was involved? What rules were changed at Parker? Is something changing at Henderson?

As you know at the drivers meeting it was anounced to all teams that there would be a 2.5hr time limit. On day 2 the #1917 vehicle exceeded the time limit by over an hour but was given an official finish with points. The #1930 and #1949 were both on there 3rd lap but encountered mechanical difficulties. We made the decision to park the vehicles because we could not finish under time.

I can accept the DNF knowing we all played by the rules but this was clearly the exception. I contacted Cory and was told he could not do anything about it, this was Caseys decision. I called Casey and was told his decision stands he was just trying to get as many people accross the line as possible, I guess that means even if you have fo find a way around the rules.

I would like to think we would be better represented by the UTVRA after all we do pay fees above and beyond those paid to Best in the Desert.

Rules are rules we win and lose races by the rules if we dont stand by them then what is the point of having them. I once lost a desert race by being 9 minutes over time, and yes it was a hard pill to swallow we still have to respect the decision to play by the rules.

Regardless we move forward, see you in Henderson!

Just to clear the air and set the facts straight……. What happened was, on the third lap of day two with about eight miles to the finish we blew a clutch belt. We jumped out of the commander and proceeded to change the belt. While I changed the belt, Jason my brother jumped on the radio to check with officials to see how we were looking on time. ( because time was a concern of ours also) the official come back over the radio saying if we were able to get up and running in the next twenty to thirty minutes we would be able to finish. Finishing is always our goal so we made sure we stayed in continuous contact with officials. We were able to get up and running in no time. We preceded about one to two more miles when an official waived us off the course and instructed us that the second race had started early and they wanted us to wait for the faster cars to go through, so that we wouldn’t interfere with the lead cars of race #2. We sat on the side of the track for about forty minutes to an hour waiting for almost all the cars of race #2 to finish their first lap. We were finally told it was ok to continue. We then got back into our commander and ran to the finish. We would have finished close to the 2 ½ hour mark if we hadn’t been pulled off the course for race #2. Casey from BITD also contacted me in regards to the situation and assured us that we did everything by the book. He also told us that there were a number of teams in several classes that exceeded the 2 ½ hour time period. So I don’t see how you can put this on the UTVRA? Casey told both you and me that this was his series; he makes the rules, and his decision alone to let us finish…. Not the UTRVA. My advice next time would be stay in contact with the officials and don’t give up until they tell you to stop!! See you all in Henderson
