DragonFire is going going back back… to Baja!

DRAGONFIRERACING

DFR 2009 Baja 500-1000 Winners! - Official UTVUnde
It’s that time of the year when you take all of your hard work and beat the heck out of it! Once again DragonFire Racing has put together a Baja logistics program for the Hawk Carlisle Race Team. In case you didn’t know the guys from Hawk Performance make some of the best Brake Pads and Friction plates in racing and they love to do real world testing. So every year they load up the guys and make the trip out of the snow and to the sand of Baja Mexico. They have been know for road racing but have been turning heads in the dirt since day one winning the second Baja race they have ever competed in. DragonFire helped get this dream going not only building the chassis on which they race but also providing pre-run vehicles and logistics on and off the track. Baja has a mystique that won’t let you stop and this year the guys will be setting out to win the mother of them all Baja 1000. Commonly known as one of the toughest races on the face of the planet this will surly put the team and the DragonFire products to the test. Racing for over 19hrs straight on the worst conditions possible may make you cringe but these guys will all say the same thing “Viva La Baja†on behalf of DragonFire good luck guys and stay safe.

It should be a good race. It's beautiful this time of year! At the 250 they came so close and had a few problems slow them down, We are hoping for a Win this time around!

Unfortunately I (Chris) won't be making it down and I do most of the photos. I will be relying on my friends in the sport and guys from the crew for photos but I will be sure to post all that I can. I know Derek Murray from Murray Racing will be getting some photos and he is a Team DragonFire Driver as well. So we will have some UTV shots no matter what.<O:p</O:p

Is this a new rig? What engine is in it? HP guestimate? Weight guestimate? Is it BITD legal? Good luck and be safe down there. :)

This is not a new build for DF, this is the same basic 2 seat Nessy that raced the 1000 the last two years and the sister car to the single seater that won the 500 and the 1000 in 2009. It now has a Muzzy engine (750 based). I have no idea on weight but maybe in some of the early Nessy build threads Todd gives some weight numbers. I would assume it is BITD legal but no one has raced a Nessy in Nevada yet.

That is a production Nessy car that is all tube chassis with a Kawi motor and is SCORE legal but not BITD legal.

Still working on getting some good photos but here is a quick look at what it is to run a Class 1 at night in the Baja 1000. Ride along in the DragonFire Black Rock Class 1 with Driver Mike Skeen behind the wheel. This was Mike’s first ever Baja and from the looks of it he’s having no trouble at all getting used to the woops and dust of Baja. The GoPro makes it look pretty smooth but both driver and navigator said that the infamous San Felipe woops where as big and bad as ever…

Nice video. The course was pretty rough, and took its toll on lots of teams.

Here is a short video of the utvs passing by near the start of the race. You can see the Dragonfire UTV passing by quickly.
