Danielle Weatherly LOORRS Regional and WORCS mid season recap.

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Regional Series Southern California.

Round 1: This was my very first Lucas Oil Regional Race so I was a little nervous. I qualified 3rd out of 11 people so I was pretty excited about that. I started on the pole, was doing great and holding position for the first lap and then got passed by Kayla Smith and Tommy Scranton. I was able to hold my 3rd place position for the rest of the race. The guy in 4th was trying to make moves but was unable to pass me and ended up breaking down. We had out a gap between us and the rest of the cars so when that happened I was able to relax a bit and finish out with a 3rd place podium.

Round 2: The unlimited class was grouped with the 900 class for this round as well as round 3. The unlimited class started in the back of the pack, with about 20 cars total on the track for the race. By the half way mark of the race I physically made my way up to 5th place & 3rd in my class. With two laps to go my belt blew, and luckily I was in a spot where I could safely pull off and watch the rest of the race from the sidelines.

Round 3: We were able to put a brand new belt on my RZR the night before and checked everything on the car to make sure it was running great. I went out in qualifying and with in a couple seconds of being on the track my belt blew again! I got towed off the track and unfortunately wasn't able to qualify so I was going to have to start dead last. With the help of Randy and Rod Anderson we were able to fix my RZR and find out the reason that my belt kept breaking so by the time my race came I was ready to go. Green flag waved and I was feeling great, and then I got spun out by a competitor and flew off of the track putting me back into last place as well as loosing so time from my class. I made my way back up to 6th place out of 11 and was battling for 5th for about a lap and a half when the checked flag came out with me finishing in 6th.

WORCS Round 1 Taft, CA

Round 1 did not have a powder puff class formed yet.

WORCS Round 2 Primm, NV ( February 6th)

This was technically the 2nd round of the WORCS Race season but the powderpuff did not race the first round in Taft, CA Jan. 17th. This was an awesome way to start out the season. I raced in the GMH Motorsports Pit RZR with my co-dog Shelby Anderson. There were 17 girls total in this race. Came out 4th in the first turn after the start. Was able to move my way up to 2nd place on the short course TORC track behind Savanna Brooks. Her and I were neck in neck for the majority of the race and having a great battle. Half way through the race I passed her in the last turn of the TORC track and moved into first place. From then on out I held my position and podiumed with 1st place finish!

WORCS Round 3 Peoria, AZ (February 28th)

The powderpuff was stacked with 14 ladies for this round. This was my first time racing and even driving in Mike Gardner's Polaris RZR. Had a bad start, got ping longed between a couple girls and came out 6th by the first turn. I had done the practices the day before and knew that if I waited to get out of the moto track section there was a very wide straight away where I would be able to pass my competitors. I help my position and when the straight away came i moved over to the right and passed 4 of the women all at once. I was in second place behind Savanna Brooks and was on her bumper waiting for her to make a mistake. When we got to the the section to get back on the moto track Savanna accidentally entered the track the wrong way. Since I had done the practice I knew the right way and stuck to my line, in the first turn I had 3 girls along with Savanna who had entered the track the wrong way coming straight at me! I moved past them safely and got into 1st place. Savanna had caught up quickly and was on my bumper trying to make a pass but I held my position. It was raining the entire time we were racing and I ran out of tear offs about 2/3 of the way through the race so I had to race with my visor up. Luckily at that point i was still in 1st and did not have anyone in front of me making it more difficult to see than it already was. I brought home a 1st place finish for this race, and it was a very big accomplishment for me.

WORCS Round 4 Lake Havasu (March 28th)

WORCS Havasu was my third 1st place finish in a row. I did not get a great start, about 6th out of 14. With in the first couple turns I was able to make some clean passes and make my way up to 2nd place. I was battling for 1st with Amelia Morton for 3 laps. The track was very, very rough with little to no places to pass except for on the moto track. After the 3 lap of battling with her I knew I had to make a move on the upcoming moto section. After the 2nd turn into the moto track there was a huge table top and I knew that would be the only place I would be able to make a pass. With my Lucas Oil racing background coming in handy I knew I could hold the throttle a little bit longer and shoot the jump farther than she would. And it worked! I passed her mid air and was able to keep the lead from there on out and get the win.
