Cody Rahders went into Round 7 of the Lucas Oil Regional Series with a 1 point lead in the Production 1000 class and a 2 point lead in the Stock XP 900 class and came away from the days racing as the 2014 Champion in both classes.
Starting with qualifying Cody, driving his Cognito Motorsports/Polaris RZR’s went out and set the pole in both classes then moved onto the main events.
In Production 1000 Cody was faced with a must win situation in order to clinch the Production 1000 title. At the start he went from fourth to leading by the end of turn two and would hold it until lap seven where second in point’s driver Tommy Scranton caught Cody and the two would then battle back and forth for the lead with Tommy leading going into the last lap.
Cody would maintain pressure on the leader showing him a wheel in every turn when his chance would come in the last turn of the last lap. Scranton would drive in too fast and bicycle the car allowing Cody to drive underneath him and on to the win.
In the Stock XP class, the start was inverted two positions placing Cody on the outside of row one. At the green flag he was passed by the number two in points Bryan Carr where he followed his competitor at first then half way through lap two Cody would pull an outside/inside pass on the leader in turn two only to have him drive into the back of Cody’s car in turn three, their wheels would touch and the second place car would flip violently ending Carr’s day.
After the restart Cody then opened up a 15 car lead but half way through the last lap the temperature spiked and the engine went into limp mode. It took 5 seconds for the condition to clear but the damage was done and he completed the race in fourth.
“In the 900 I caught a break with Carr going out early, the overheating could have really been a factor. In 1000 Tommy was driving good but I just kept pushing, he made one mistake and that was all I needed.â€
“Congrats to Rahders on another successful season,†said Donna Beadle, race team manager for Polaris Factory Racing. “Rahders is one of the hardest-working racers on and off the track and it has paid off again with championships.â€
