Code Rahders & R3 Motorsports Reports: Rounds 7 & 8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series in Tooele Utah

The new track in Utah was a bit of a struggle, like the Lucas crew struggled to learn preping the new dirt Utah brings to the mix (clay based vs. sand) we struggled with set up. UTV is last in the line up on Fridays so we were given a pretty rough/dry track to practice and qualify on. We came up with a descent setup and qualified second.
Saturday morning the track was flooded for practice, Codes car was so tight I think he spun at least once a lap so we rolled the dice and went back to something closer to our original setup and he went to race the main event.

Saturday's main. For the first four laps of the main event Codys car was still too tight but he was holding second with the first place in site. Halfway through the 5th lap the end of his steering rack sheared off, thats a failure we have never seen in four years of racing and it turns out 2 other cars suffered the same failure over the weekend, something which I contribute to the unforgiving clay surface we were racing on.

The Sunday qualifier came and we dialed in the chassis a little more then qualified second again. When the green flag flew for the main event Cody slipped past the pole setter on the start and drove away....until the 7th lap when the bolts holding the steering rack pulled the threads out of the tab mounts on the frame. Cody then rolled the track two more laps and salvaged 5th place.

We have already stripped the car and are in the process of making changes for both performance as well as reliability then head back to Code's favorite track, Glen helen, for Rounds 9 & 10 on August 6th & 7th.

If you can make it swing by our pit and say hi.
