“BLACK RHINO/RACERX MOTORSPORTS SPONSORED DRIVER CODY RAHDERS RACE REPORT FROM LOORRSâ€
09/04/13 El Cajon, CA- For rounds 11 and 12 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Superchips driver Cody Rahders finished both days of racing with two top finishes in the #76 Black Rhino/RacerX Motorsports/Toyo Tires ProLite race truck placing 6th on Saturday and a 9th place on Sunday.
On Friday there were two practices the crew used to fine tune the carburetor and suspension then for Saturdays qualifier Cody took it easy and qualified 7th in the second qualifying session placing him in 14th start position for the main event. When the green flag flew he used consistent solid laps to move through the pack but it almost ended on lap 6 when another truck shot across the track sideways and almost collected Cody in the process.
"I had a good run coming out of turn 2 heading into 3 and out of the corner of my eye I saw Noah (Fouch) completely sideways and headed my way. I checked up on the face of the jump, which is a really bad thing to do, but it was that or hit him. Glad he was ok, that looked rough."
Cody then continued his run through the pack to finish 6th on lap 12.
“I’m not gonna lie, that was fun. Everyone is so fast it’s crazy, if you check up just a little you get leaned on hard by the others (drivers) in the corners and pushed out. I hate racing like that but I’m learning to push back.â€
For Sunday Cody was feeling a little more comfortable in his third National start and qualified 4th in session one giving him a 4th row inside start. At the top of turn one he was spun out along with several others and the race was restarted.
The green was waived again and Cody made a mistake at the top of turn one getting shuffled back from 8th to 12th.
“I lifted and three trucks just moved me right out of the way.â€
Cody then went to work on the pack. By the second lap he was in 10th, by lap six in 8th, and on lap 10 he was in 6th place and closing on 5th when he lost his brakes. With only two laps to go he stayed out rather than pit but with no brakes he wasn't able to drive into the corners as hard as he needed and lost three positions to finish 9th for the day.
“I thought I was going to crash the first time the brake pedal went to the floor, after that I just pitched it (sideways) early to scrub speed and make my turns. I had to go a lot slower and got passed a bunch; looks like a rock broke a rear brake caliper. Two top 10, that’s pretty good.â€
