Battery help!

I was in Glamis a few weeks ago and ran my battery dead. It was about midnight and I was sitting at the base of hill 3. I figure the battery went dead from running my HID’s? I don’t have any other accessories to run at this point, but I’m planning on intercom and gps at some point. I ended up buying a new battery from Gilmores and was fine the rest of the weekend. Because of this I want to get some ideas about what to run. Is a dual battery system better than converting the battery system to a single, let’s say optima battery? Are there any charging problems with running an optima battery? Any help or ideas would be great.

mine was dead last trip when i pick up the t.h. from storage and i did'nt leave anything on . i charged for a while and it's been ok since . they where saying something about three wires going to the battery and some of dealers where only hooking up just two
of them not sure if you had that problem already or checked that out yet

Put in a voltmeter and monitor it as your first step. Find out what the battery voltage is at the start of the ride and what is drawing it down during.

Stock halogen lights draw a lot. Plus the radiator fan. HIDs hit hard at startup, but then decrease.

I would do this before adding another battery.

@ VBosch02: The Odyssey battery (925) has been the best i've seen on the market. I've never had any problems with it. A friend of mine who has a RZRs has (6) Hid's, (6) speakers with one of them being a 8"sub woofer, (1) 500 watt amp, intercomm and GPS system. He goes all weekend with no problem and that's including night rides.

Awesome, I'm going to check into this!

The Odyssey is a great battery and fits directly in the battery box on the Ranger. The Rhino uses a U1 sized battery and there is some really good batteries to fit that also, including the Power Source and Lifeline.

I installed an isolator and Optima Yellowtop in a customers SxS to power the huge radio system he had installed. He likes to take it to the beach and use the radio with the engine off so it was a great system for him.

If you use accessories with the engine off often a deep cycle battery and a isolator is the way to go. If you are only using accessories while the engine is running, a stock sized battery is fine.

Have any of you installed this Alternator kit from RPMFab in a Ranger 700? I am running stock lights, 2 100w halogens and a rotating dual amber safety light. I will be running the lights while snowplowing and need the battery to last10 to 12 hours at a clip.

Thanks for the help and input.

your charging system will not keep up with all of that, in many cases you can convert those halogens to HID with a 30-50$$ kit, this would help alot, over buying a new battery.

the rhino alt kits worked very well, the "upgraded" stators not very well.
