WESTLING & RHODES Runner-Ups - CHAMPIONS ALL!

For immediate press release…

California City, CA – October 31, 2015 – After six grueling events, including two in Baja California, the names of Bradley Howe (Pro) and Kimberly Dunn (Sportsman) rose to the top of their respective classes and overall points championships in the 2015 PURE UTV OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES, presented by AVE/Baja Promotion of California City, CA.

It took some great effort by everyone who competed in the Series, as each event was unique on its own and challenged racers to negotiate all types of terrain found in the deserts of California City. To be sure, the courses were shorter than let’s say racing Baja or in the deserts of Nevada, but they offered as many challenges as the other series, but in short spurts.

Regardless, no less than 52 UTVs showed up and competed in the Series, which brought racers from all over the Western States, including Texas, Colorado, Utah and South Dakota, as well as Nevada, Arizona and of course Northern and Southern California.

In speaking with race promoter, Lou Peralta, he stated, “I was happy to see so many new faces showing up to our events. Some tried it just to see if they were competitive and desert racing is what they want; while others just wanted to see how they fared on the courses we designed. A lot of credit for that must go to my Race Director, Alan Bell. We made sure that when they went racing they would have a little bit of everything, just like in Baja, to challenge them, but in short sections. That’s why we are so lucky to have great options here in California City. It’s just wonderful and the cooperation we get from official is nonparallel.”

Other Class Champions were: Greg Sullivan, Unlimited 2 & 4; Dustin Fortner, Pro 900; Christy McGuffin, Pro 850; Ian Scott, Spts 900; Scott Henricks, Spts 850; and Susan Purkhiser, Bone Stock 1000.

With the six events in 2015 under its belt, AVE Racing/Baja Promotions has already released its 2016 schedule, which will include all six PURE UTV races in the Series in the States. Racers will be able to drop one race at the end of the series to compute their Overall and Class Points, as it was done this year. The 2016 dates are: PURE #1, Jan 23, 2016; PURE #2, Mar 19; PURE #3, Apr 23; PURE #4, Jul 16 (night race); PURE #5, Sep 10; and PURE #6, Oct 22.

There are also two UTV races in Baja, May 28 and Oct 1; but they will NOT count for the Points Championship but they will have its own Championship with Ensenada and Ejido Coronel Esteban Cantu offering the “ENSENADA CUP” – a two-race series open for American and Mexican racers.
