Wheelchair Accessible Build...HELP!

Enabled Veteran

New Member
After reading many articles about people with spinal cord injuries driving UTV's, I was inspired to build one of my own. I am a C4-5 incomplete quadriplegic and I recently purchased a 2016 RZR S 900. I've had a blast riding as a passenger but I'm ready to become a driver! Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, Holz Racing Products has made a VERY nice hand control set up that is being raced with by a few guys including Josh Fredrick. Also, if you are a veteran, you should reach out to Warfighter Made. They will help you customize your ride FOR FREE!!! We work with them throughout the year. Look into it!

Thanks Joey. I'll contact Holtz and Warfighter Made.

I contacted RacerTech and they are in the final stages of releasing and production set of controls. They have a list of names of people who are interested and they will contact people when the product is done.

A little aside but I was always concerned with toy haulers..I've seen some ramped trailers that look accessible with wheelchairs. Might have a problem with tables and things though. The doors never look wide enough.

I have a plan. Once I'm able to drive my UTV I'm going to purchase a 45' enclosed trailer. I would like to be able to hold three UTVs and have an accessible living quarter at the front. I don't want anything fancy, a bathroom with toilet, shower and sink, and bunks for myself and whoever is with me. I'm sure I will have to talk to several trailer companies about a custom build.

My grand scheme it Is to have an accessible, full-sized, truck to pull an accessible fifth wheel trailer with an accessible UTV inside. After I have all that I plan on taking it to the VA hospital in Augusta, GA to show fellow veterans with spinal cord injuries this recreational possibility. There are other VA spinal cord injury centers across the country that I would like to visit as well. If I could coordinate the visits with my rides at local riding areas, that would be great.
