Old motorcycle racer here... After I broke my back in the dez a couple years ago the wife said no more. I still have the itch to race, and while she gave me a hard no to 2 wheels, she said I could if I had a cage around me. I briefly checked out my local short course series, and a couple buddies are racing it in the Pro Production class, after talking to them, they recommend I get something to race in the turbo prod class. So now I am looking at getting a rig to setup for Pro Turbo Production. That being said, looking at the RZR Turbo, X3 Turbo R or X3 Turbo RS. Right now with the 2018's hitting the floor I can get 2017's for a screaming price, have found a NOS 17' RZR Turbo for 18k, X3 Turbo R for 21k, and X3 Turbo RS for 26k.

For short course is the added wheel base of the X3 (90 vs 102) going to be a advantage or disadvantage over the RZR?

Looks like the X3 has 4 inches more travel up front and 2 in the rear over the RZR, is that needed or going to give me an advantage? Extra travel and width of the X3 RS any advantage for short course, or just more weight?

If the X3 is a recommendation, is the 17 model worth saving some money on, or is it worth going with the 18 for the additional power?

Thanks.

The other thing I would add is the XP Turbo will have significantly more aftermarket support.

If you are looking for something turn key though and don't want to have to put a bunch of money in it, the XRS being 72" wide definitely has a stability advantage.

Ya, plan is to build a cage, bumpers doors and nerf bars. Throw a 5 point harness in it and a fire extinguisher, send suspension out to be valved and then race it. Once I get some races under my belt will be able to decide what else I want to do weather its wider, or more power, or something else...

I like the X3 just because you can get it with a factory 72 inch width. You will probably want to lower it and limit the travel as Jim said.

So the width would help in shortcourse? How about wheelbase, I think the one pro of the X3 for me is that if I ever decided to go dez racing with it the long wheelbase would definitely have a huge advantage... Didnt know if they werent as nimble when they are long on a short course....

There is an update kit for the 17 X3 to bring it to 18 standards (HP). You may want to look into that and how the total cost works out if you chose CanAm

Unless the track is a really tight MX style course, I think the longer wheelbase will be more stable.

When you say shortcourse, I am thinking of LOORs or TORC which are very fast courses. I would definitely say that extra wheelbase has an edge in that style of racing.
