See now I thought UTV and UTV FI were Production based classes meaning I could walk into Veys in El Cajon right now, buy an AC and start my build.
So what Im gathering is you can build a car loosely based on a production model that doesn't really exist, throw in what ever house brand engine you want, say this next years model, and as long as it passes safety tech you can race it?
Well then as long as its 77" x 96" and doesn't exceed 1L you factory supported big money teams just got the green light to build what ever the fu#$ you want and race it at SCORE.

I totally agree with you Doug. I like the fact that there are more factories involved with UTV racing. But this car should have been in the unlimited class for sure. Nothing against the cars themselves or the effort that the team put in. But it is total BULLSHIT that they raced those in the Production class. SCORE and BITD needs to grow a spine, stand up and stop bending the rules so much just to get entries in the race. The only thing they are doing is shiting on the people that built their cars within the rules.

Wayne is 100% correct.....this reminds me of the retarded election we just had and a pattern of other unacceptable and ridiculous things people say and do. I don't know Roger Norman but Casey is guilty of having one of the highest profile series and at the same time the most unprofessional decision making and rule bending probably ever existed. This is what happens when it becomes just about the money.....you lose your sense of reason. I hope he does not let AC run with this floor plan at BITD.

I think he means more like a UTVWC Production 1000/Production Turbo class.
Seems to me from reading the other thread, that the new Speedcat can be purchased by anyone thru the Artic Cat dealer network and is basically just another model of Artic Cat, therefore it would meet all of the requirements of running in the production class. Just because it is built in limited production numbers shouldnt disqualify it from running in the class. Car manufactures have done this for years and is nothing new, building race cars from the factory that are availible to the public, and therefore considered production cars. The price cant be beat for a competitive race car from the factory, considering of course that it is cometitive and it appears that it will be. Building a one-off competitve race car cost will cost you more. As far as there being a "true" production class, I'm not even sure what that means, does it mean taking a stock RZR for instance, stock suspension, steering, shocks, motor, trans and so on with a race gage and fuel cell, if so that car would never finish a race. Take a look at the RZR that just won the Baja 1000, should it be allowed to run in the Production class, how much Polaris parts are left on that car? I say yes it should, and was allowed to run in the Production class, this is racing and it's not supposed to be cheap, no racing is, it's about winning and being competitive. Some can afford it and some cant, thats why there are racers and fans of racing. Of course all of this is just my opinion
The specifics of my theoretical production class would be something like cages, shock work, fuel cell, clutch work, but not much else. I have never raced desert but why could that not finish? Drive slower & smarter to finish. Is that not possible in the allotted time?
Nothing i guess is impossible, if you had an unlimited amount of time to finish, but that is the big dilemma "in the alloted time" To finish the Baja 1000 in stock car would take so long that you would time out pretty early in the race. Desert race courses are so rough that a stock car just cant handle the brutal terrain. It is not a trail ride, it is a race and the promoters make sure that the alloted time makes you push at a race speed. I can understand the challenge of racing in a faily stock class car, I've raced in everything from "stock class 11 bugs to full on 800hp class 1 cars and each offer thier own challenges. I've assumed we are talking about desert racing, there maybe other types of racing that would lend themsleves to a more stock car. I also assume you reasoning for wanting to "drive slower" is a finacial issue. I can totally understand being on a limited budget, but desert racing is not the venue for a person on a limited budget. A desert race car that can finish and be competitve will cost you over six figures, that is just the reality of it. If you cant afford to be competitive in the desert, no problem find a type of racing that you can afford to be competitive in. If desert racing is something you really want to do, find an experienced builder and bring him a duffle bag full of money and hold on for the ride of your life.
Yes, financial reasons would be the number one reason but also It was drilled into me since I was 4 that to finish first I had to first finish so I have always concentrated on saving my machine and feel I am decent at it. Where I race we run 1 hour races so we just can't put the punishment on a machine that you guys can in these very long races. A good driver here can be very competitive in a very mild rig.

An hour long race is basically what we do at the BWDC. Its 2 days 72 miles each day and I believe it took about an 1:20ish each day. Ask anyone who raced that race....it was a drag race, no holds bar'd race to the finish in the desert. If you "play it safe" and save your equipment.....you lose.

You are right, manufacturers have always built race cars in the factory so they can race in a production series. The thing you are very wrong on is that they don't build one at a time. They build them in the factory because in order to be considered production they need to make 500 or a 1000 units not just one. You don't make one car at a time in a factory. The fact that you can buy one from a dealer does not make it a production car!!!

For those that are old enough to remember. Tiger ATV did somthing similer back in the height of the 3 wheeler days. You could purchase a hand made, built one at a time race bike that was track ready and production class legal. I dont think this is any different. If anyone can put up the 1000k to have a car built at RGs shop why would this not be considered production class legal ?
You are correct for the car industry and the racing org. that sanction production based car racing, but this is UTV racing and it is up to the sanction body to decide what they consider is a "production car" What about a compnay that has a manufacturing license and is licensed to issue vin numbers and only produces 100 built to order cars a year, what should be the cutoff as far numbers produced to be considered legal for that class? Strickly just a question
