For immediate Press release…

California City, CA – June 22, 2016 – Race promoter Lou Peralta, of AVE/ Baja Promotions Racing, reports that Baja Designs is sponsoring three outstanding UTV racers to be at the upcoming, BAJA DESIGNS Presents, “THE NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME” UTV Race scheduled for July 16, 2016, Starting at 8 p.m., in Cal-City.

Dan Eckardt Marketing Manager/Sponsorships for Baja Designs is sponsoring, Braden Sims, Jacob Shaw and recent Mint 400 and Baja 500 winner, Wayne Matlock, to the night race held in California City, which is part of the 2016 PURE UTV OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES.

The July 16 race promises to be a hotly contested battle between series top notch drivers as Cain Smead, Bradley Howe, Josh Westling and series Points leader Kent Perkins who will be going after his fourth Overall and Pro 1000 Class wins.

The PURE SERIES is a GPS-based series where the Navigator has now taken an equal part in the success of the team. Limited course marking and arrows are used on the entire 21.6-mile course so it’s up to the Navigator to stay on top of the course and direct the driver accordingly. In recent races, many of the competitors have credited their wins and their high placings to the job of their individual Navigator to get them to the finish line. One racer commented that he has never driven harder and more exact as he followed his Navigator’s directions to the teeth.

Branden Sims is no stranger to the AVE events as he has raced them on several occasions. He is currently factory backed racer for Polaris RZR, who recently has been competing on the BTD, SCORE, and King of the Hammer events. He is definitely a top-notch contender as in the last few seasons he has amassed tremendous finishes in the 2014 Baja 500, where he placed 2nd in Class, in the 2014 Baja 1000 where he took the top spot, and in the 2015 UTV World Championships, where he landed the Overall winner. And if that weren’t enough he finished 2nd at the KOH and 1st in Class in the prestigious 2016 Mint 400.

Jacob Shaw, who has been a privateer racer in the 2015 UTV World Championships in Short Course, has amassed as many as 17 podium finishes out of 20 races. The factory-backed Shaw is now branching out into desert races with the Polaris RZR Turbo.

The third marquee-racer to join the AVE/BP night race is Wayne Matlock, who has a solid desert history. A few of the notable recent finishes are 2015 Baja 1000 Overall UTV, 2nd place at the 2016 Mint 400 and 2016 Baja 500, where he won in the factory-backed Polaris RZR.

Asv you can see, it’s going to be a “no-holds-barred” romp through the desert night on a twenty-one-mile-plus course that has a bit of everything in it. Just to keep people on their toes, the first two and a half miles will be technical and slow, while the mid-race course will offer very fast whooped sections. Still the race is not finished or the lap completed until you cover the last mile and a half of the course. Fortunately for pitters and officials the entire 21-mile-plus course is laid out within a five-mile radius for easy access and easy chase.

This marks the fourth event of the six-event 2016 Series that is sure to set off some alarms. The weather should be in the mid-eighties as the first vehicle takes off at exactly 8 p.m. Earlier in the day, a drawing will take place for starting positions, with each vehicle leaving in 30-second intervals.

First vehicle/racer to complete seven laps is the considered the finisher and the checkered flag will come out for all to complete their individual laps. Even if you have not completed the entire laps, you will be considered a finisher of the event.

Don't worry Jim. For a second I thought I won the Mint too... LOL....
I will not be able to make it out to this race on Saturday though. I have another place that I have to be and can't be in both places at once. I wish I could do both because this event looks like a ton of FUN!!!
