Round 1 has come and gone with much anticipation and gusto. The storms from the previous night left use with some great racing weather. We had tornado's as close as 14 miles away during the night before the race and thankfully they stayed away for race day, The weather dumped 4 inches of rain dumped over the entire course the night before race day making for a fast challenging race.
Rain or shine, rally raid goes on, race day turned out to be a great break in bad weather. We had a slight overcast keeping the track damp and the dust down in the pits which allowed for pit crews to work unabated. 58 drivers lined up to prove their skills and show the gasoline in their veins. Over the next 4 hours we would find out just who has the skill and confidence to perform in these challenging conditions. Rally Raid has proven one thing about this type of UTV racing. " To finish first, first you must finish." True to form, we had all kinds of challenges on the course for drivers in this ever growing popular series of unique and original racing.
With a new season, comes new pits. The return of the "hot lane" or "fast lane" to UTV Rally Raid makes for a popular spectator hangout and allows for drivers to keep their flow and makes the pits more entertaining for all involved. As we walked thru the pits during the race we saw new faces mingling with old faces from last season. We saw drivers and crews helping each other out, as we've come accustomed to. We overheard guys discussing helpful tips on making pit stops, gas consumption, and loaning tools. All this makes Rally Raid the coolest racing environment ever experienced.
True to form UTVRR awarded $3500 in cash prizes on race day and with the addition of a new class for round 2 on March 31st UTVRR proves it’s flexibility to be able to be shaped by the racers and provide a real series that racers can genuinely be proud of and be assured UTVRR is here for the racing community.
Another great feature of UTVRR is the fact that it’s a family event, with racers and spectators of all ages getting involved and joining in all the fun and the first round to the new season saw a great turnout from racers to spectators. The first round saw over 100 spectators on race day dotted around the course and in the pits with children getting their first taste of racing and families coming out to support their drivers. There were so many spectators the food vendors ran out of food in the evening and the UTVRR Tshirts’s were swallowed up as fast as they could be printed.
With changes to the course to improve reliability and speed for round 2 across this 12 mile loop UTVRR is truly being shaped by its racing community. As always the atmosphere at UTVRR was humming, the pits as always came alive for round one as the sun went down and the night portion of the race came into play. Watching the driver’s race across the ridge line made for an awesome spectacle with lights blazing and has proven to be an unexpected hit with the drivers.
We'd like to once again thank our headline sponsor RacerTech for their commitment to Rally Raid. We'd also like thank joomGo, Basch Brothers Powersports, PCI Race Radios, Mountain MotorSports, Blue Torch Fab, and Adventure ATV for their class and fastest lap sponsorships.
If you have never raced UTV’s in a fun family atmosphere with a great community behind it then you owe it to yourself to come out and see what the racing community is pumped about.
UTV Rally Raid, there really is nothing like it. Some may try to imitate but there is only one original, UTVRR.
