Well it all started last year i began to race my can am in the Ave racing series in california city ca, It did not take long to get hooked. Built the car in house at the shop i work on as a side job to help a buddy with his business. The year had some ups and downs and got quite expensive, but at no point did i want to stop. Ended up finishing off the year in a top 5 spot of the pro production class as a rookie, as much as i wanted to win it all i had to accept the fact that i had put up a respectable result. The car really started to come to life when i was able to join up with Radflo suspension, my shock god Jason hess wanted NOTHING but the best for me and the car and his devotion helped drive me to prove his work was worth it.

Now we end that year and i told myself when i first started that i wanted to step up to the "big dogs" class the next year and not stop until i could. Well then a month into the year, i missed the first BITD race due to car issues, i woke up one day and literally said F it i am going to work for this and not give up. I had exactly 4.5 weeks to do what i thought was impossible, and that was to modify the car to be legal for the BITD series. Working my own career job as well as my side job and trying to maintain my household and dogs(we all know they arent that easy haha). Ive spent every spare moment, every weekend, late nights, days stressing and thinking about whats next. My hat goes off to you guys who have been doing this for years, i understand why a team is what can make or break a season. I come from a motorcross backround, grew up racing full time, it was just me and the bike, no one else to rely on, no one else to blame. Only after racing in the desert last year did i realize i cant do it alone. I relied on myself almost entirely, drove the whole year with no co-driver, built the car on my own, tested the car alone. Every mistake i made i made sure i only had myself to blame and accepted it. Now i know, you have to loosen up and trust a team to help you through it all and it looks like i am starting to get a grasp on that.

The car is still under the torch and grinder but i can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and its becoming real that i am doing something that i have only dreamed about and have had family and friends back me entirely, as well as my sponsors that stuck with me through the year.

i figured i would post some progress pictures just to show some of the hard work going into this season and i hope to continue on to the rest of the BITD series...fingers crossed...

Sounds like you have the passion, unfortunately the passion and late nights are not enough. It takes a lot of help from friends and family for pit support to race. I admire the passion and know all to well the late nights of work that goes into this sport. If you need any assistance, We at Suspended Fabrication will be supporting and pitting mulitple of our customers cars at all of the BITD races. If you need a helping hand hit us up at the UTVWC and we can talk. There is always a place for the guy with the passion in my book

I never thought of that. Are you able to Solo a Best in the Desert Race in class 19 ? I am pretty certain i read in the rules that you must have two seats in the race car but nothing about two racers. Not sure why utvra says two seats per car when I am pretty sure you can have a single seat class 10 car and even a single seat class one car. Does anyone know for certain ?

They wouldn't let us race a single seat in 2009 when we were doing it in SCORE supposedly for safety reasons. Same BS as going on now, especially since you can do it in C1 and class 10.

That was my thought. That makes no sense. You can race in a car solo that will go 100mph with almost the same diameter Cage but not in a slower UTV because of safety. Maybe there other reasons.

That rule really dates back to the rhino days when UTVs just never really finished.... it's clearly never been updated or talked about being updated.

The one we raced finished every race except it first one which was 2008 Baja 1000.

Hey Gilroyboy (Brandon?).. just chiming in to wish you luck.. I'm that stalker that had all of the desert racing questions for you as you were gassing up in Lost Hills last Sunday (14th).. Told you I'm a former ATV guy looking to break into UTV racing myself, and that I'm about 2 years behind you. You're an excellent ambassador for the sport! Anyway, just sending good karma your way, and maybe I'll stalk you yet again this weekend in Laughlin as I head out there to spectate and learn.. (Ok, this is beginning to sound a bit weird....)

Kidding aside, good luck with the big dogs this year- your passion will be a tremendous help.
