This time our trip to Laughlin wasn't as last minute as the UTVWC. we had done a thorough prep on the car but had minimal test time. the weekend started Thursday morning in Barstow trying to tune our clutch where we determined that the car was was disappointingly slow. we made a couple changes and got it better but not what we wanted. so between Thursday morning and Friday evening we had the clutch out of the car almost 15 times. still not great but it was good enough to race with. Saturday morning comes and Steve Schneider and Don Wilson are ready to race. they had their work cut out for them after drawing 26th. Steve drove a great race and came home in 9th place. at one point he hooked bumpers with another racer! but he kept it smooth and consistent. after we got the car back to the pits we discovered the we seized a CV and took out a wheel bearing. Thanks to the guys at Peak, we got new rear axles and thanks to Rick Gieser for letting us use his press to get the wheel bearing installed. On Sunday my dad, Mike Nix, and I were at the helm. our plan was to run a good pace but still try to save the car. we were second off the start behind vanbeekum and we chased him for a couple miles but decided to let him go and hope he broke. at the end of the second lap we were in 4th on time and 3 seconds behind Matt Burrough in third. when we saw vanbeekum broke in the fox proving grounds we decided to take it a little easier on the car and get a solid finish since we've been fighting gremlins with a new car. well no less than 4 miles later the car went into limp mode while coming out of a corner. a few seconds went by and we gained full power again but it was short lived. we decided to limp it into the pits and get a 3 lap finish. the limp mode was caused by a wire breaking out of the injector connector. total bummer after doing so well. We gotta thank Lonestar Racing, Fabwerx, ITP wheels and tires, Fox Shocks, and Kartek Offroad for all their help! we'll have our guns loaded for the BWDC! r2suntjimg_6467.jpg
