Pro Class in Baja...help!

Thanks to all of the people who wrote emails to Sal today. This means a lot to the UTV industry and giving us 'cred' in one of the biggest off road racing series in North America. As I have said before, Dakar has a pro UTV class, WORCs has a Pro UTV class, BITD has a kick azz Pro UTV class, GNCC has a Pro UTV class, HDRA has a PRO UTV class, etc...etc. So why not SCORE. Actually Sal would make more money if he created one. But the letter and email writing is accelerating every day, not only from racers but also from UTV enthusiasts who think we deserve at least what SCORE gives to the 2 entries who show up in the UTILITY ATV class...a designation as being a Pro class. Please keep writing and I honestly believe we can make UTV's a big deal in BAJA. Thanks again for the support. Here is the email address again... salFish@score-international.com Trust me he won't bite, but you might not get a return email....but I can assure you, he reads them. Every email counts...can I count on the Rock Star Girls for an email?

I'll send an email. I love our sport even though I don't matter ;) Thank you for the time and energy you put in helping to make UTV racing grow! We do need people like you to get the word out.

Sincerely Lacrecia, I appreciate you supporting UTV racing and supporting the sport by kicking butt on the race course.

Keep the emails coming! Sal is receptive to feedback about this class.

I received a reply email today out lining rules for a SCORE Pro UTV class. It seems very similar to BITD. The only thing I would like different is an 800 and below class. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't afford to buy a new car and I would like to be racing cars that are similar in performance instead of being out classed.

1st in the 250 and 3rd in the 500 in a 686cc 1 ton rhino this year... Have some faith in you Rhino!!!

I do have faith in my RZR 800 (had a Rhino for the first 3 years I raced) and I always finish well. IE: 4th in the MINT this year after starting dead last of 30 cars. I haven't finished out of the top 10 in all the events I have raced. Here is my 2 cents though: I can most likely always finish 4th, but I will never be able to finish first with the top 3 cars backed by Polaris with motors built by Kroyer. I can't afford to compete with them. Maybe if by chance all them broke down there would be a chance, but not realalistic. I am happy with my car and my team. We have a strong car and always (knock on wood) finish the race. I started racing sportsman this year because I felt like I was just handing that extra 250 bucks over to the top 3 teams. I save that money and after 2 races I can afford to race another one. It would be nice to have a class for us with smaller cars and still be able to compete for a championship and win some money.

I know this is a little off base, but IMO the difference between an 800cc and a 1000cc, in Baja, isn't enough to tip a scale between 1st and 4th place. In general, desert races equalize the horsepower by simply beating the crap out of everything else. Don't get me wrong, there are places that the 1000cc is going to give you a speed advantage (Laguna Salada), but you've got to make it up and over the summit before you can even think about pinning it across the lakebed...then you get the rollers of Borrego and if your in the 1000 loop race you get Mitomi and the whoops of San Felipe.

Our TT runs about 300HP less than most in the class, we have never had an engine issue take us out (to this point)...instead its been broken axle in Laughlin, broken welds on a fuel cell in the SF250, Broken A-Arm which caused the tire to tear the headers off the block at the B500. In San Felipe and the 500, we were running top 10 out of 40-50 entries when we broke. This is all due to having a new vehicle and working the "bugs" out. Our Class 1 car won the SF250 overall in 2010 with 510HP engine (most TT are 850+).

Don't get me wrong high horsepower and speed have a place, but I really believe Baja is all about prep, crew & finishing, if you can. They are such brutal races than anything can happen, just keep moving forward and sometimes the last to start is the first to finish.

Thanks everyone for your support. It has taken five years of pestering to get SCORE to consider a Pro UTV class and if we don't screw it up...it will happen. I am out of the country until Saturday, and I need to look at the stuff that is been proposed.

Baja is very, very expensive. You would need to double or triple what you spend to run a BITD race in order to run a Baja race...much more for a penninsula run. So if economy is a consideration then Baja is likely not a good place to run.

I totally agree regarding horsepower and last years SCORE UTV and BITD UTV results show that.

Again, thanks for the support regarding a Pro UTV class for SCORE and lets stick together and show these guys what we can do in Baja! :)

We will always support our sport! As for Baja, if anyone is interested in teaming up, let us know. We can look into it.

I love Baja. I am not afraid. I have had one issue and it could of happened any where. Drunks are Drunks in every country.

UTV's would give me another reason to head south. If anyone is looking to test the Baja waters and needs a fat guy with some Baja knowledge let me know. I have been doing the Baja thing for 10 years and I travel to Juarez for work. Baja is like Disneyland compared to Juarez.

Rusty, you can be on my team anytime!

Thanks to everyone who sent an email. Evidentally Sal (grande cappo de SCORE) received a ton of them. So they are seriously considering creating a Pro UTV class for SCORE for 2013. This would be HUGE for UTV racing. It would take nothing away from BITD, VORRA, MORE, WORCS, GNCC, etc but would give UTV's real Baja cred. Again thanks to every one of you who took the time to email or call. Also thanks to every UTV racer who has gone to Baja and raced. It is really tough, in more ways than one! Let's just sit tight and wait/hope that this happens. Woot...woot! :)
