Im trying to get ready for the Pure 125 for my first race and have a few questions.
Does the $150 entry cover the co driver too?
How much "play traffic" do you normally see during a race?
How much is the IRC rental? Is it a quick installation?

Sorry for getting back a bit late...

The $150.0 Sportsman entry covers everyone in the vehicle. They all have to be banded.

Re; Traffic: One never knows. Many of the racers will tell you that they've seen little traffic. We try to set up our race dates away from big Holidays, regardless, you must be always alert of other traffic, especially during the day time. NIGHT RACES OR WHEN IT GOES INTO NIGHT, THERE'S USUALLY VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC AND IN MOST CASES YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE SOME TYPE OF LIGHTS, AND THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE YOURS AS WELL.

The IRC rental should be between $35 and $50 and that depends what systems they bring.

Hope that takes car of your questions. Look forward to seeing you.

Do you need to have a Lowrance or gps unit for this event?

What about radio communication. What is recommended?

First time racer here.

Again, sorry for getting back to you late.

You don't need a GPS unit because the course is usually marked very well: White double ribbons on the right hand side, with black arrows on a white background.

Having said that, the GPS comes in handy and it keeps your Navigator sharp and involved. Moreover, you never know when some one blows a turn and may take some of the signs down.

We also suggest radio and/or cell with you. It's a safety issue and a good way to communicate. PCI our official race radio provider and also Rugged Radios usually have some killer deals. Check them out.
WE run on 151.625MHz which is the Weatherman channel. We can also be reached at 661.524.1550 (lou) or 661.524-1554 (Lois).

Hope this information helps.

THE PURE “125â€
I HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS AND SOME BAD NEWS

First the BAD News:
• After going around the course twice, we have determined that either we have a 30.7-mile course or a 31.4-mile course. Our Lowrance GPS displays 30.7 miles or 122.80 miles after four laps.
• OR – Using our marking vehicle’s Odometer and digital trip calculator where it shows 31.4 miles covered, which means = 125.60 miles.
• Regardless, count on at least 122 miles but we think it’s a bit more because of the “drifting†effect that the solar sun flares cause or the fact that we may need to re-calibrate our very old Lowrance, or that fact that in Cal City, strange things happen!

NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS:
• Attached is the course map we marked today, including course notes. It’s going to be a fun course that will fit just about every level of competition.
• The course has been marked with double “white†ribbons that you must keep closest to your right shoulder. It has also been marked with “black†arrows on a “white†background. We also have mileage markers, starting with RM 1 and RM2 and then every two miles (4, 6, 8, and so on…)
• The course has some tricky rough stuff at the beginning, then a good 10 miles of pretty fast running, eventually finishing with some massive whoops and sand and tricky, slow stuff.
• All in all, it’s perfect. (Please read the “Legend†boxes in the attached map for more details.)
• You can also download the file by going to our website: www.averacing.com
• For those of you who have signed-up and would like to get the Google Earth “.kml†file, just send us an e-mail and we will send the “.kml†file to you.
• After you’ve had the opportunity to take the “Tour†of the PURE “125†Course in Google Earth, you can convert the “.kml†file by going to:
o GPS Visualizer and converting the file to whatever extension fits your GPS unit. Go to this link: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/

 A request: Those of you who have not picked up the Year-End Awards for the 2013 Season and are planning to attend this first event of the Series, please let us know so that we can pack them with us. We still have a few that were not picked up earlier. After race weekend, we can mail or ship them to you but it will be at your cost.

 It looks like we have quite a few new racers for 2014, which it is great. Now all we need is for some of you seasoned AVE racers to send in your entry or deposit as soon as possible.

 We are debuting with a brand new “scoring program†that is excellent. However, it is a bit complicated but we’ll be able to do a lot of things once we get the hang of it. (Don’t worry, we always have two or three manual backups.) We have been running “test†races and so far so good. Eventually, this racing program will run “on-line†where friends and relatives can see the same “live scoring†as it is taking place.

 We will be using the IRC units and you can pick them up race day between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. race day, at the start/finish.

 The Hot Pits (area) remains the same as last year and it is on a first-come-first-serve-basis. Remember, only the trailer, truck, motorhome and tent that is directly servicing the race car is allowed to park next to the track/course, which is inside the horseshoe. All others must park behind the “Hot Pits.†We have plenty of room for everyone, just cooperate and not take more than you need of frontage space.

We hope to see many of you for this first event of the 2014 PURE “1000†S-X-S OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES with the running of the PURE “125.â€

Regards,

Lou and Lois

Lou, how does one get an assigned race number? And will the same number be used all season? Thank you

You get your number after you send your entry in or deposit. And yes you will run the same number all season as long as you run the same class.

What he said.

And we did get your entry and you are #1028. You're set.

The Production 1000 Pro Class already has about $1400 in the Pro Purse!

See you soon.

Roger I reccomend a gps, lou marks the course but I wouldnt say the markings are great...maybe racers mow down the signs...idk, but after being in the car at a bitd event I have definatly said WTF a few times at the pure races. But for what lou is charging....these are AWESOME Events.

Is this race considered a desert race or a closed course. Rules seem to differ.

I would say it is all desert...wait....yeah...all desert. We have no man-made jumps so desert it is and in this case there's 30-plus miles of desert.
Yes, I would say it's a desert race.
Check out some of our videos to verify. www.averacing.com

Wow I thought this response was some punk ass, kid. I asked what may be a stupid question to you, but after reading your rules there are a handful of things I'm trying to sort through and some of them depend on a desert race vs a closed course. I have heard of short course but never closed course. And based on your response it will help me figure out what I need on my rig to race in my very first race.

My guess was that there is desert racing and with that you may run into other non racer traffic and then there is closed course that might mean the perimeter is secure and there is no non racer traffic.

Thanks for trying make me feel stupid for asking a question based on you not very clearly defined rules.

He wasn't trying to making you feel stupid at all. Sorry that you may have taken it that way. That is just Lou's personality, he is an awesome guy and would never put anyone down. If you make it to the race and meet him you will understand.

Sorry man, never did I intend to make you feel stupid or anyone else for that matter. While I'm may be long in the tooth--some say to long--I'm still having fun putting on these races and Lois and I really enjoy meeting all of you.
You will see that we don't do it for the money but for the love of competition and for the opportunity to introduce people to what we are betting on, will be the biggest Series in the Country in a short time.
Again, I apologize if I made you or anyone feel uncomfortable. To make it up, I will allow you to invite me to two "cold ones" (after all the racing is over!).

For immediate press release…

STATE FARM INSURANCE & EVAN DIETREICH AGENCY
SPONSORS OF THE PURE “1000†- 2014 1K-KUP

CALIFORNIA CITY, CA – Feb 17, 2014 – Evan Dieterich owner of the Evan Dieterich State Farm Insurance Agency, Redlands, CA, signed up today as the “Official Sponsor†of the PURE “1000†OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES “1K-KUP†YEAR-END AWARD
Evan a racer himself wants to put back something into the sport and decided that sponsoring the “1K-KUP†would be right up his alley. The 1K-KUP is awarded to the racer (team) who completes all five races in the series and finishes with the highest Overall points. The 2014 five-event series consist of the PURE “125†in February, followed by the “175†– “200†– “225†and the final event of the season the “275,†which all add up to one thousand miles of “pure†fun and “pure†racing in the open deserts of California City, CA.
Last year’s KUP winners went to the team of Josh and Jim Westling as they completed the most miles of any team in 2013. They edged out second place finisher by less than 50 miles.
This year’s PURE Series has been shortened a bit to a total of 1000 miles, which still is quite an accomplishment as the deserts of California City feature just about every type of terrain that you can find in California, Nevada and Baja but in short spurts.
AVE welcomes State Farm’s Agency and Evan Dieterich to the fold of major sponsors of the series. Please go to www.averacing.com for more details.
