2015 “PURE UTV” SERIES
OPENS WITH THE “125”
STACKPOOLE/SCOTT TEAR IT UP
California City, CA – Feb 2, 2015 – In what had to be considered the absolute best racing conditions to race in the California City, CA desert, Polaris-drivers, Michael Stackpoole and Ian Scott (XP1000) tore it up for six laps, completing the 125-plus-mile trek in 3:05:09 hrs. to lead the way as the Overall and also top Pro 1000 finishers.
They set a blistering pace from the on-set and were never thwarted.
Rains the week before in Cal City and on Thursday night, before the Saturday race, made the course one not to forget. The entire field raced like if it was a stadium race with little or no noticeable dust along the way. Traction was so incredible that it took many racers by surprise, who were expecting to power-slide at certain turns but instead hooked-up, grabbing wads of wet soil and nearly going over.
AVE Racing set a 21.6-mile course and racers were required to complete six laps. However, the racer who would complete the six laps first would get the checkered flag and everyone thereafter would also get the checkered flag, no matter how many laps may have been completed.
There were ten vehicles to race all six laps and amazingly all ten were only thirty-four minutes apart, from first from tenth overall finisher. It was a tight and exciting race to watch at various points of the south-leaning course. Fortunately, the event went off without any major issues or incidents--just clean and hard racing.
Finishing second overall, also in the Pro 1000 Class was Nick Nelson and Nick Destant (Polaris), who were but a mere one minute-thirty-seconds behind the leader, with a finishing time of 3:06:39 hrs.
And rounding out the top three finishers was Bill Diesel and Jim Chenoski (Polaris), who according to the team, this was not only their first race with AVE but their first race, period! They entered in the Pro 900 Class but saw where they could make a few bucks more and before the green flag dropped, they asked to be moved into the Pro 1000 Class. It paid off. They wound up third overall with a time of 3:12:08 hrs., that’s after they were issued a two-minute penalty for missing the scoring chute on their first lap. First time jitters were taken into consideration and the two-minute penalty issued did not affect their finishing position.
A light entry showed up at the Alta Vista Ranch for what many said that it was one of the best courses ever. Nonetheless, the first event of the 2015 PURE UTV INTERNATIONAL OFF-ROAD DESERT SERIES is now in the books with a resounding success.
Unofficial results, which become official February 11. They can be found at AVE’s website: www.averacing.com.
The second event of the PURE UTV Series is scheduled for March 28, with the running of the PURE “150” – Race Promoter, Lou Peralta indicated that it will be laid out on a totally new course, using the eastern side of the Cal-City desert.
