So I have been looking at getting a new toy. Something streetable and capable for Ocotillo and Truckhaven. I was looking at Jeeps and early Broncos but am curious why the mid 90 Broncos are going so cheap. Here is a very clean V8 powered Bronco with A/C that with a lift and lockers would be a sweet desert cruiser you can remove the top on and it should be very capable. I figure I could be into it for 10-12k and be lifted with a cage, lockers, gears and a few trail items on hand like a hi-lift, winch, and onboard air. Whats the downside on these Broncos besides their size. Plus I could pull my SXS in my small 6x12 trailer also.

they are heavy, get crappy mpg, and have beam front suspension which isnt totally bad but will take a few bucks to make work properly.

Downside: Marry into a rich oil bearing family in Dubai, you'll appreciate the cheap gas because these things are thirsty.

It's older, and probably hasn't been on the trail. It's going to break so be prepared to work on it often.

Upside:

Everything else. This looks like my sons '88 when we got it ~1.5 years ago. He's beat the living $hit out of it and it's still running. Towing is a tough thing on these, so don't go heavy. We're rebuilding his locker right now because the previous owner lugged a big trailer behind it.

This thing has been up most every black diamond trail in Arrowhead that it could fit on. It is a freakin goat!

Tons of online resources. Look at the Full Size Bronco website, more than you'll want to know...
