Need information on Prowler Rear differential!

I experienced a problem with my 09 Prowler jerking when you try to take off from a dead start or at a rolling start. It did not do it when in 4 wheel drive. I discovered that the rear driveline was turning as much as 3 or 4 revolutions before rearend would engage. This machine has the turf saver rear differential. I removed the rearend and found that the spool was welded so you could not take apart. I ground the welds off and dissassembled and found that there are a type of clutch pack on each side. Mine was damaged beyond any repair on one side. So to make a long story short I was wondering if anyone has removed there turf saver and installed a solid spool from a older model. If so do you have the correct part #'s. The turf saver spool and gear assembly is upwards of $700.00 everywhere I have looked online and the comparable solid spools are around 150.00 in the older models. I have compared the parts diagrams and numbers to several other models and everything seems to be the same except for the pinion tooth numbers and the spool with the ring gear. My pinion is 10 tooth and the ring gear 36 tooth. I can't afford to spend 700 plus dollars to repair this rearend so any help would be appreciated.

Robert I sent this post to my friends at Arctic Cat. If they arent overwhelemed I am sure they will answer back to me. Darryl89 may have some insight here as well.

Thanks for the reply and the help. I have located a complete rear differential at a good price. I would rather change the gear out if possible though.

Hey Robert, give me some more info and I'll see if I can help or point you in the right direction.

You say you have a 2009 Prowler, that it has the Turf Saver Diff, so that would mean you have a XTX700. But the cartridge you describe sounds like a XTZ1000 Spike Load Dampner (SLD). If that is what you have, then the fix is to replace the SLD Unit (p/n 1502-564) or to do a cross weld modification to lock up the SLD.

Let me know if you have the XTZ or the XTX. The 36/10 tooth combination should be the XTX as a XTZ has a 34/11 tooth combo. But the cartridge you describe is a SLD Unit.

I have a 2009 XTX700 H1. The part #(from the tag on the rearend) is 0502-777. It also has 3.6 stamped in it as the gear ratio I assume. So that is a 10 tooth pinion and a 36 tooth ring gear. I would really rather lock the rearend as the older models instead of going back with the clutches. I can't see spending 800.00 dollars. Just don't know what part number to order and don't have enough experience working on the Artic cats to make a good judgement call.
As far as it being a turf saver rearend, that was just one of the selling points they brought out when I bought it. I attached a couple of pics of the damaged clutch pack and the assembly.

I'll check and see what parts it takes to switch to the non-turf saver diff setup internally. I'll be in the office tomorrow and then let you know.
