Here are two great videos – created by the SxS gurus at UTVunderground.com — about the first-year racing efforts of a few of our Can-Am Maverick 1000R desert racing teams. This footage, which includes high-speed, desert-racing action from the Best In The Desert, SCORE International and World Off-Road Championship Series circuits, also highlights the No. 1917 Murray Racing / Can-Am team’s 2013 BITD season. Another BITD video features a round-by-round highlight reel with candid interviews with brothers Derek and Jason Murray and also shares the spotlight with a few other successful Can-Am Maverick pilots like “SxS Godfather†Cory Sappington of Desert Toyz Racing.

The 2013 racing season was full of firsts for Can-Am, the thrilling Maverick 1000R side-by-side and some of our desert racing teams. However, the Murray Racing / Del Amo Motorsports / Yoshimura / Can-Am team’s historic win in the UTV Pro class at the 2013 BITD Vegas to Reno race in Nevada set the tone. The Can-Am Maverick™ 1000R X® rs team completed the 540-plus mile course in 12:05:22.689 to earn its first class win of 2013 and first-ever V2R victory for Can-Am.

The Murray / Can-Am team (Derek and Jason, Bill Kugel and Monty Aldrich) impressively finished 32nd out of 76 motorcycles, ATVs and side-by-sides that competed in its racing category. The No. 1917 Can-Am Maverick was also the only side-by-side to finish ahead of the high-speed, Unlimited four-wheel vehicles and trophy trucks that started the race roughly three hours after the side-by-sides.

The Murray Racing / Can-Am team also ended its BITD season with the most points in the UTV Pro class, but ended up tied with another team after the mandatory throw out was issued. Since the two teams tied, a tiebreaker (which factors in the results from the previous round) was issued and thus left the Murray Racing team in a very close second place overall for the 2013 BITD series.

Sappington, who was fourth in the final BITD UTV pro class standings, also put in a great effort behind the wheel of his Desert Toyz Maverick this year, taking the first-ever Baja podium finish for a Can-Am side-by-side. His team finished third in the 1900 class at the 2013 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 in November.

Sappington already put his Desert Toyz / Can-Am Maverick 1000R on the 2014 BITD UTV Pro class podium, earning third overall at the opening round (Parker 250). The Murray Racing / Can-Am team entered two vehicles, its two-seat Maverick and its all-new Maverick MAX 1000R X rs.

Overall, the first full season behind the wheel of the Can-Am Maverick was full of excitement, learning and success. If the 2013 season is any indication of what’s in store for 2014, we can expect even more headlines made by these Can-Am Maverick desert racing teams.
