Re: Lucas Oil Regional So Cal Rd. 7
Hot weekend out in Lake Elsinore, I think my truck read 97 when I left Saturday afternoon!
Got out there on Friday to get teched and practice. After the first couple laps the track was looking hammered! It sounded like there had been people practicing out there all week and two-foot holes were the result. Before I even had a chance to complain though the track crew was out there doing maintenance and the conditions overall were pretty good all weekend.
Saturday morning qualifying came around and I could not get a whole lap clean for the life of me! Ended up starting on the 6th row for the last main event of the year.
There was tons of carnage in the first couple laps of the main, one vehicle had a failure in turn one that locked up the tires and slid ended with him backwards on the track and there was at least one rollover in the third turn.
First and Second in points Cody Rahders and Bryan Carr both had mechanical failures from which they couldn't recover so their positions remained as they were coming into this weekend. Rahders locked down both the 900 and 1000 classes so big congrats to him! I know everyone would have loved to see a battle in 900 like the one in Prod. 1000!
After all the carnage I ended up in a good position and was battling for fourth or fifth still close to the leaders. I made a mistake turning out of an impact with a racer on two wheels that cost me a couple positions and I never put together a good drive to catch up. I ended up finishing the race in about 8th I believe. I had problems bouncing off the rev limiter all race which I think can be attributed to a belt I probably should have swapped out on friday.
All in all it was a great weekend and a good note to end the So Cal Lucas Regional Series on. I learned a ton this year and I have a lot of changes and plans in mind for next year! I am very thankful to have gotten the opportunity to work with a lot of extremely talented people in 2014.
Congrats to my good friend Mike Lewis who was able to capitalize and take the win in the XP900 class this weekend! Definitely the right way to finish your season.
