KOH.. needs and skills?

So I am curious.. I have seen some real custom rides for KOH and some like the last winner thats not too crazy. What part do you think is skill and driver technique and what part is having high dollar custom parts and the latest/greatest trail gear?

From my perspective I will tell you this, it is hard to be a passenger spotter/ rock stacker/ winch rope pulller then it is to be a driver. A stock machine is fully capable of doing the KOH but some mods will make your life easier. Even the most modified and capable rigs could fall victim to a misplace tire or poor traction in the worng instance and that could add time and effort to your event.

Guthrie has beaten a solid field with a steady but quick pace, a solid machine and a little luck for two years in a row.

Year one he won by knowing where he was going. Year two he won because he was quick and made less mistakes then the rest.

I have driven and riden and both are a blast but I would prefer to drive but the important guy is sitting next to the driver just like Jeff Knoll has said in other threads.

Long travel is helpful in the rough stuff and helpful when needing full articulation. Getting a flat could ruin your day if you get it in the wrong spot. I think one flat and you won't be holding the checkered at the end.

I'm not driving or riding this year but I will assist anyone who needs help. I just want this to be a better event then last year and so far with Jeff's help and understanding I know it will be.

Just like with any racing venue, everyone has their own ideas about how to build a better mouse trap then the competition and some are successful and some are failures. However I love the thought everyone puts into to trying to one up their competitiors.

Let the best prepared team. driver / co dog and car win!

My thoughts and goal is to go out, race, have fun and be able to say I did it. Finishing is a big goal, now if that finish happens to be near the front of the pack, then bonus...
I have a former KOH racer co-dawging for me, plus he's a past UROC and W.E.Rock competitor, so that will be a help in the rock.
My car will be running 17 inches travel front and rear, the motor will push the car to over 75 with no problem, so lets see how it does.
I'm really looking forward to meeting you all out there and hanging with the UTVUG crew, no matter what, it'll be a success just being there....

these guys summed it up! Its more skill than machine. If you have a somewhat capable UTV with LT and a winch I think you can conquor KOH. Mitch Guthrie has done it back 2 back!!!!

I cant wait for this event!!!

This is the winner of the PITBULL TIRES KING OF THE HAMMERS UTV RACE the last 2 years.

Who is co-dawging for you?

Who is co-dawging for you?

I've been talking with RJ Brown, he said he wanted to. He's run KOH before and has competed in the UROC finals. If he doesn't, DeeDee Lambert offered..... she knows the Hammer trails good.
My regular co-dawg isn't a rock hound and has never been to the Hammers, so we figured he would be best to watch this go round.
