Helium in your tires

Maybe this is a dumb question but it has always made me wonder. Has anyone ever filled a tire with helium? Seems like someone must have tried it by now. Seams like it would make the tire a little lighter. It would be interesting to weigh a tire full of air and a tire filled with the same pressure in helium. It may not expand and contract as much as air either?

Ummmm, no! Not nearly enough volume to make any difference in weight and why pay the money for it? If you are worried about heat go to C02, but again air is cheaper.

I don't plan on doing it I just want to know why not. If you save 1 pound it may be worth it.
It must be the volume thing like you say.

Richard Petty tried it years ago in his roll cage. All it did was get him penalties... It won't save you much of anything, unless you're running those dirigible tires from Goodyear...
